Slaves - plastic punks

yeah , heard them today on radio 1, nice sound?... straight out of the late 70's.

a karaoke act, acting/sounding like new wave punks but without the attitude...they are so bloody NICE! the original sound they are copying was made by people with an attitude, with anger, with something to say. slaves are just trying to cash in on that sound...

DONT listen to slaves, DO go out and listen to a host of real punk artists with something to say - stiff little fingers, angelic upstarts, buzzcocks, damned, exploited, to name but a few.

They do actually have something to say listen to more from the album and yes they are nice in real life but so where members of Buzzcocks and The damned it was all for show when they were on stage.

Both have something to say about current society.

At least there is a group out there that the youngsters can go and see. By all accounts very good live. I like the album on first listen and it sure as hell beats bloody Sam bloody 007 Smith.

I think I'm with Mushymanrob on this one. And the 70s punk thing may never be repeatable.
Punk was nihilistic at times...this is attitude...
The Clash 'White Riot', http://youtu.be/IvG3is7Bm1w
Or The Ruts 'Babylon's Burning', http://youtu.be/zCkNu9OxThc

But yeah you can copy the sound and maybe it will get a few people to listen to the original stuff.

I think the girls do it better these days, Savages 'Husbands'

ill give you that, at least they can be seen live...

but they seem oh so karaoke to me, just copying almost note for note a style that had energy and purpose. i cant see these nice middle class kids understanding the motive that drove punk/new wave nearly 40 years ago, in fact as i recall, it was the very fact that nice middle class kids got into punk is one of the reasons it died.

That's harsh on Strummer.

In the sea of repetitive bland sh*t they play on Radio these days it’s quite refreshing to hear the utterly messy destructive racket these two make. Quite enjoyed the Chemical Brothers cover they did on the Live Lounge recently too.

Agree. First time I heard them I admittedly thought it was an old Ruts or Stiff Little Fingers song but there is definitely a market out there. The original punk fans like myself, are in our 50s and many of the band members are in their 60s or even 70s.... If they are still alive. I've been to a few pop punk concerts recently, the best being Marmozets, and the young fans are really up for it.
