A post about Gail Porter

Gail Porter is a strong woman

Resilient and a fighter.

Gail has BiPolar, Depression, Insomnia, OCD, All massive issues to take into a house like that.

She is in the house with provocative, aggressive, loud people.

The very nature of the game is dealing with rejection. Something any normal person struggles with let alone someone who has been through a tough time.

Ive seen Gail be called Pointless?

The show is about looking at people from all walks of life and how they deal with each other and the game.

Gail has become emotional and often irritable.

This hasn't been (as some have said) for attention, or for pity

Its an incredibly unusual environment for anyone. For someone with BiPolar it must be nigh on overwhelming.

'She shouldn't be in there then'

Why?

Are people with mental health issues not allowed to do the things you do? Is that Prejudiced?

Meek, emotional, invested, trusting, irritable

All words id use to describe Gail, none of which are in anyway worthy of some of the vitriol I've seen thrown at her.

Whilst the Good looking men in the house sail through (as they sail through life) not doing much, flatlining, getting by on the female viewership fancying them.

Gail is showing you raw, true emotion. The real her

She's not perfect

She's just deeply deeply human. And if we can't deal with that then its probably a reflection of us as a society.

This may be a dramatic post, but mental health and the stigma surrounding it is something I'm deeply passionate about.

Humiliating and degrading someone who has chosen to share their entire personality with you, no matter how flawed or sensitive is in my opinion truly disgusting

She had been asked to participate in Big Brother and offered a hefty sum of money to do so.

Like any jobbing person, when someone offers you a job, you would be a fool to turn it down.

She had obviously seen the show before, knew how it works etc.

But signing up for it doesn't make her 'fair game' as I've heard people say. This isn't a witch hunt.

Gail doesn't have to win, thats not my point. But supporting her through this and not turning on her for 'crying a little bit too much' (a pathetic excuse to dislike someone IMO)
is something we should be thinking about

I would appreciate if people didn't try to derail this thread by picking up on Grammar mistakes etc.

Focus on the issues

Well you said it yourself, they're massive issues to take into a house like that.

If she can't handle it, she shouldn't be in there. Crying all the time over precious little is a sure sign she can't handle it.

That said, she's brought more to the show than the likes of Chris & Sherrie so I wouldn't mind seeing her survive another couple of evictions.

They are issues that can overwhelm someone

But she hasn't let them

She's successfully composed herself and got back to a place where she's emotionally comfortable.

She can handle it.

Its the viewers who can't seem to handle her

I hope she goes. She's too timid to nominate certain game-playing Americans in case they find out, so she'll sink team UK.

You cannot know that and that is exactly how it has come across to me.

Why does anyone have to support her? That is patronising. She has issues that many people suffer from also but she doesn't have a nice personality and has done nothing to entertain me.

i would like to take issue with your last thread that was closed, because i pointed out she had had ocd , alopecia, depression and bipolar, and I said she was in danger of letting that define her rather than show her fun side or any other part of her, you then very nastly stated and put words in my mouth saying that i didnt like her because she had depression and illness, nowhere have i ever said this, whilst i understand that you have a tough time seeing others point of view regarding Gail, please dont put words in my mouth and libel me as not lking someone for having a mental illness!!

Simply getting the strength to go in that house should be commended. She's battled her way back

They shouldn't change your mind about her. Im not asking you to pity her or feel sorry for her but to understand that those things make her tick. They are the things that define her behaviour. She's not crying for no good reason.

If she was going for the pity party then 1/she wouldn't be showing her feisty irritable side and 2/ she wouldn't immediately be trying to compose herself when she breaks down crying. You're just being cynical. Not everyone is trying to deceive you or the public

Support her as in don't make the experience worse for her by degrading and name calling. You don't like her fine, she probably won't win, also fine, but don't name call and drive her further into a spiral of negative thought. Thats just cruel

I don't dislike Gail as a person, I dislike her as a housemate. Everyone is expected to handle her with kitten gloves, and even then she often wells up, looks up to the heavens and flutters her tearful eyes.

And for the record, it's not just because she doesn't partake in the drama. Scoop, for example, doesn't goes around looking for arguments either, but he still contributes and gets involved when things go down (Chris take note).

Which all of a sudden made people have to change their argument to 'she's a bitch, who does she think she is'

Poor Gail can't win it seems

I dont think Gail has indicated that she should be treated differently, has she?

I have not called her a name. However she has put herself out into the public eye in the most extreme way so I don't see why she should be treated any differently to the other HM's.

I don't think I am being cynical, I just don't see anything genuine about someone who says one minute that they turned down jobs because they were asked to cover up their condition with a wig and then in another breath becomes emotional about their looks, it's a complete contradiction.

No, but a lot of people on here get attacked for 'picking' on a 'vulnerable' person.

And whether or not she has indicated that she should be treated differently, she's still a lousy housemate.

She did this at the beginning of her Alopecia journey, were she was trying to find the inner strength to deal with the massive life changing event

People over time change.

In your opinion

What makes a non lousy housemate?

In fact whats the criteria for being a decent housemate? Because as far as I'm aware the show is about looking at different 'real' people from all walks of life.

They aren't monkey who have to dance to your tune dear.

Not at all

Im indicating that people shouldn't be unreasonable with the amount of venom being thrown.

Aim it at the people that deserve it, with no moral fibre

Not someone who is already struggling. Thats masochistic

I am judging her on what I am seeing of her in the house.

Dear,

A lousy housemate is one who refuses to engage in what is going on around them, for fear of looking bad. Gail herself said she'd have pulled Farrah's hair if she was out of the house. Which indicates she's putting on an act just to placate public opinion. That makes her a bad housemate, one who is all too aware of the cameras and public perception.
