Oh my goodness, I am so saddened by this news. I had many 'chats' with her and she was always such a lovely person. RIP Wonkey.

I agreed with her more on other topics, though, and there are subjects I don't think will ever be discussed as well without her, both here and in other DS forums.”

You and Wonkey made for great discussions Veri. It was always good natured and a pleasure to read.

She had been under a lot of hospital care since the spring but was always so matter of fact about it. Never one to make a fuss. She kept upbeat with her tales of NHS incompetence, making it sound like the plot of a sitcom, and I wish you could have read about her childlike glee at getting a stairlift fitted! So the end came as a shock, I think she kept the worst of it away from us and treated chronic illness like just another one of life's hurdles you have to deal with.

On here we bonded in one of the Appreciation Threads. As so many of you have said she was always very fair and thoughtful. She loved getting stuck into a meaty debate and was always interested and respectful of wildly differing views.

BB14 was the final straw for her - too manipulated and resorting to personal humiliation for her liking. She had a bad instinct about BB15 and refused to watch, a good call as it turned out. She was still up for dissecting the tiniest detail of BB's good old days though!

So yes, it's quite fair to call Wonkeydonkey a DS legend, one who will be very sorely missed.

I trust she gave the Grim Reaper a polite and very stern telling off for his audacity.”

I'm sure she did! Wonkey was a huge part of the essence of DS for me. DS is a poorer place without her, which I've noticed over the last few weeks. Thank you for posting this information. I didn't see her talk of her illness on here, which was wonkey through and through. Such a sad loss, far too young and I hope she didn't suffer too much. She must have been a wonderful person to know in the real world and my heart goes out to her family and friends. xx

Still having trouble processing this, it doesn't seem fair that someone so essentially decent should be taken so soon.

Her poor family must be heartbroken

Sad news. I rarely agreed with her but I did respect the way she handled herself in a debate - always gracious.
Whether you loved her or not, she will definitely be missed around here.

My condolences to wonkey's friends and family. It was always a pleasure to read her posts — written, invariably, with enviable verve and clarity, good humour and suffused with an uncommon level of empathy. I can only repeat what others have said: she will be greatly missed.

Oh the saddest of news. RIP Wonkey, one of the best ever posters on DS, you will be missed. I miss you already. Every condolence to the family, I hope they will take some comfort from our tributes.

Really one of the greatest poster's on DS and I will miss her eloquent and funny posts very much.

Most of the times agreed with everything she said, sometimes I was on the other side but no matter what side of the debate you fell on with her you had fun debating it.

I remember her reply to me once that said "I can't really argue with any of that" and I felt like I'd won the Olympics of DS Posting.

She added very much especially to The BB forums

Many thanks for the extra information on here Val, it is greatly appreciated, she sounds like she was very upbeat and courageous until the end. Do you know how old she was? You are right when you say she was a DS legend, she will always be remembered and missed by so many of us. It's a very, very sad day, condolences to all her family and friends xx

I’ve been looking back through WD’s BB threads to try to capture a flavour of them.
There should probably be a knock-down, drag-out, multi-quote marathon in there but I wouldn’t know where to begin with that.

The obvious one to refer back to is her post explaining why she was giving up on watching BB, despite loving it like nothing else, because she didn’t like the way it was heading:
In which I flounce, turn into Julie Burchill and get a slap.

Otherwise an arbitrary selection of…

Her analytic eye and distaste of one-sided views:
What the housemates know and what they don't know
Why has a girl always been first out?
On doing nothing, flying under the radar and getting the sympathy vote.
Witches, cliques, cronies and block votes
Challenge: defend your least favourite housemate.

Her sense of humour and quirky threads:
Personally, I'm disappointed by the wisdom of the insects...
Post BB cliches
Classic Ch 4 scenes vajazzled by Ch 5
Most iconic BB garment (poll)
The story of Aaron in iambic couplets
Most unsuitable job for the housemates
One housemate; one week on a desert island; and you
Is this an erotic scene?

She was a great lover of housemates and of the forum:
News from the uncharted wastelands of BB (Merged)
Has the forum ever independently changed your feelings?
Gather round children for a forum history lesson...

On a personal note, I’m glad that if we never met I at least taught her Top Trumps,
“14 year old boys will never be safe again from fearsome old bats challenging them to games.”

Thanks so much for posting these links Trumbles, its emotional reading them and I guess shows how much Wonkey meant to the BB forum - what a passionate, articulate yet such a fair and objective poster, and of course funny to boot.

Thanks Barracute too for posting the link to her last post, very fitting, and to the mods for pinning this thread, so appropriate and fitting for a DS and especically BB Forum great.

I've made a link to your post in the General Discussion "RIP Wonkey Donkey" thread, since it had looked like people there would be interested.
