Samsung is having a tough year. Its new phones that it was convinced would have it up in the stratosphere with Apple have been no more than a damp squib. However the chickens look set to come home to roost as Samsung are reportedly ready to cut almost 10,000 jobs at Head Office. Perhaps some of the folks at Samsung who come up with multiple variants of their phones could get the made redundant along with this years designers but I'm sure they will cling on.

I'm convinced if they lowered the price ces to be more reasonable and then people perceive value for money, those phones would fly.

It's the pricing that is the issue.

If I were samsung I'd cut the range apart from maybe 5 separate phones. Ultra low end, low, medium, high end and super over the top flagship. Make the price more realistic than what they're charging, integrate with the developer community again (I seem to recall a time when they sent the original developers of Cyanogen Mod a free s2) and rebuild almost from a community point of view. They've got good hardware now, camera top, processor top, it's the confusion price and software that's holding them back now.

Your right and everyone is saying it about the price. You would think they would take note, decrease it enough to get sales and make your money via volume.

Samsung lost me as a customer this year with the mess of the S6. I know, one person, wow, but I think Samsung has lost the support of a lot of more advanced users in favour of your average "I just want a good phone" type of person.

Touchwiz on the S6 was a mess, 3GB ram but can't multitask better than a Moto G, average battery life at best, disappointing update (that took ages to release) from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1 that didn't fix the multitasking and a horrible antenna that picks up signal worse than their own Galaxy S4 from 2 years previous. Add the awful customer service I received when trying to fix these issues, and you have a huge mess seen as this is a flagship that launched at about £600.

It looks really nice, it's super light and thin, but none of that matters if the experience sucks. If Samsung want to put out products like that and charge a fortune, they are going to need to do a better job.

Otherwise, Apple is more reliable and easy to use for your average smartphone buyer and other brands like Motorola/LG/HTC/OnePlus will appeal to the more technically minded/advanced user.

At least Samsung used to try to appeal to advanced users, but not anymore now that they removed microsd and removable battery support. And now that they are using their own in-house Exynos chips, you can't even run stock android, you have no choice but to use Touchwiz.

Yes - I think exactly the same as there is so much more competition with Android phones (which is a good thing for us, but not the manufacturers).

I think also the non up-gradable memory and removable battery on the S6 was a big mistake as well (did LG do this a while back and then decided to reintroduce them both)?

With Apple they have got their customers by the balls (if you want iOS then you need to buy Apple - which is a bad thing).

It goes deeper than that but yes pricing and the lack of expandable storage and then jacking the price up for bigger storage capacity models took the piss. A leaf out of Apple's book and that didn't wash too well with Sammy fans. Plus the S6 has a smaller battery than the S5 and it's non removable as well. What made Samsung phones a good seller was that it offered more value compared to iphones. The key was not to be more like Iphones. So they got the premium feel but at the cost of what made the S models a hit and that was having the expandable storage and removable battery.

Also add the fact there is more competition and some great mid range options now that offer a great experience. The likes of Moto G, Zenphone, and the wave of Chinese phones with high specs and cheap price. Consumers are wising up somewhat and shopping around a bit more.

Another reason I think would be the great sim only plans that are available and people can either just keep their existing phones and not bother to upgrade for a while, or buying something cheaper that can do the job whilst not being tied to long expensive contracts. I think all the Android phone makers are struggling to varying degrees because of the increased competition.

A agree they need to lower their prices but I disagree the phones would fly. Samsung are obsessed with Apple and trying to be Apple. But they don't not have the premium products Apple do.

Samsung needs to take on the cheap Chinese phone makers, they will never take sales from Apple. An whilst concentrating on trying to copy Apple they are losing their actual core customers to Chinese phone makers.

That has always put me off Samsung phones (and tablets). I like Android but on Samsung devices it is blighted by their awful TouchWiz system which just seems to slow everything down and ruins the user experience.

If Samsung released a pure Android version of the S6 without all the Touchwiz nonsense i'd buy it right away, but for now I stick to Google Nexus devices.

Samsung will only lower their prices if Apple lower their prices. Because Samsung only knows how to follow Apple's lead. And Apple aint lowering prices (and nor should they).

S6 price drop due again now the iPhone is announced?

There are so many good points about the quality of budget Android phones these days, kills the top end.
