I am hoping this is the end of themes after this series of bb
This theme has been pretty disastrous and I hope the powers that be realise that enough is enough.
In january hopefully it's just celeb bb mainly Brits we know of and a token American if it's really necessary . Clearly this theme was just a ruse to load the show with Americans as per the channel owners request. Not convinced it will happen though |

welll, i think you need to have obtainable hopes or forever be depressed...
it is like saying you hope tv goes back to the black & white tv standard before 625 lines of colour tv began.... tv is all about themes... it is a gimmick to keep tv series new and interesting rather than just declining as people get bored with "the same" - every tv show evolves to add the new fashions and remove the things not so popular.. it is a competitive market, there are other channels offering "the new same old but better" on the other channels... and if they do not respond by doing the same tweaks then the slot will be used for something that can... remember this is commercial tv... the only goal is to attract eyeballs to adverts - from advertisers who pay to show their wares and services to specific demographic types... i.e. if you dont like the show you may not be the target of those paying for the show to be made... and if the target audience doesnt come, then the channel will replace the show with something that does the job better. THAT is what tv is about... and so "themes" are never going away ( look at the history of "scrapheap challenge" and you will see the basic format, 2 teams with a scrapheap of bits to choose from radically changed how the show was based over the 10 years... each year they had to be bigger and better than the year before... because the copyshows where raising the bar too. |

Having themes means that BB can twist the show however they like to try and make something go their way.
The only theme I want to see on the show is "back to basics". |

The production team need to get rid of the themes, they just don't work anymore.

Back to basics bring in the vege garden, chickens, make own bread etc. Normal shopping task for a luxury shopping budget and no nomination twist!

Not working to well though is it as there are less viewers every series.
from supermarkets, to pubs, to every single product you can think of they have to "change the way they look" to stop it going stale. BB has never had the level of competition it has now.... hence the smaller but stable ratings... but the total size of audience actually doesnt matter, it is the number of type of people the show attracts that the advertisers wanted to reach that matters... just talking total size is a muppet metric - the important one is the share and hit target... and few seem to understand that when they argue success on here. |

But the only chickens we are likely to see now is the headless variety as C5 look for the latest crackbrained idea. |

If we didn't have the themes we'd end up with something similar to iAc with the series all blending into one.
Back to basics will never work now. Look at BB4 - it went 'back to basics' and ended up being the boring year. Then you had BB5 - went evil. Themes have to stay.
Until BB is finally scrapped ? |

This year's America v UK theme was stupid as BB isn't a team game. There is only one winner. For it to have been a team game based on nationalities, Americans would have only nominated Brits and vice versa.. They soon forgot that and started nominating their own country's housemates

I really enjoyed BB4 and I'd take that over any of the C5 series, let alone any of their themed series.

Me too and not just over all the C5 series, it was far from the worst CH4 one too!
I honestly believe that if BB4 hadn't come between BB3 and BB5 and had immediately followed BB2, then it wouldn't have been called boring. |

Definitely. I just had a look at my ranking of each series thread, and you ranked it your third favourite series. It's one of my favourites too, (I ranked it in second).
I honestly believe that if BB4 hadn't come between BB3 and BB5 and had immediately followed BB2, then it wouldn't have been called boring. 1) The reward room was an excellent never to be repeated idea 2) It was the first series to bring back an evicted hm (albeit in a non-competive role) 3) The Africa swap remains unparralleled to this day. |

I it was always going to be Brian was going to win because at that time he was "different" but he was not my choice. I don't think he deserved his second win either. I did not dislike Brian but he was not good enough to win in my opinion. |

It's my favourite too. I rewatched it last year. and the final night was so positive and uplifting. It truly felt like a celebration of the whole series.
And then when Dean was evicted they remain close to each other - very moving. And I too would love to see it all again - can you advise how I could do this ? |
