Another connection question....
I have a Telewest STB, a Panasonic DVD recorder and a Philips TV. I do not have an external TV arial.
I can set all of these up so that I can watch telewest on EXT 1 channel on my TV and DVDs on EXT 2 channel however I can't get my DVD recorder to pick up the telewest channel to allow me to record anything. I have connected everything through Scart leads. Hope this makes sense and that someone can give some advice to allow me to record as I am now getting really frustrated. Thanks |

Connect telewest STB AV1 to AV2 of Panasonic and AV1 of Panasonic to AV1 of your tv.

Does the TV work off of both of the telewest SCART outs?

I can't see the problem in what I said. Don't have the telewest box connected to the TV. You connect it to the dvd recorder and the dvd recorder to the tv. The signal will pass through the dvd recorder to the tv when it isn't turned on so you don't need to connect the telewest box directly to the tv.

The bog standard STB connection is as follows....
STB "TV" SCART --> TV AV1 (Ext1) SCART STB "VCR" SCART --> Recorder AV1/2 SCART On the recorder select whichever of AV1 or 2 is In and Out capable, some recorders only have one SCART which can do both. The other is often one way (can be an input though more likely output only). Most Panasonics should be in/out capable on both. This makes two basic assumptions. First off that you STB (be that a Freeview/TopUp TV, Sky or cable box) has two SCARTs. And secondly that it is capable of passing through the "VCR" SCART signal to the "TV" SCART so you can watch the recorder (VHS or DVD) on the telly. On the recorder you select whichever of AV1 or 2 inputs you have plugged the STB lead into. You don't use the "normal" 1 to 5 channels nor do you need to do any "tuning" of the recorder. Just look for a button called Input or sometimes the AV inputs are selected by using the up/down channel buttons to scroll down to below channel 1. If your Panasonic remote is anything like mine the Input button is concealed under a slide down flap at the bottom of the remote. If however the STB does not have separate TV and VCR SCARTs (they may just be labelled 1 and 2 - use 1 for TV 2 for VCR) then you need to connect via the recorder. hence... STB SCART --> Recorder AV2 SCART DVD AV1 SCART --> TV AV1 SCART Select AV2 input on the recorder in order to be able to watch the STB output and record it. With the recorder in Standby or Stop the STB signal will loop through to the TV. The only downside to this method is if you did have an aerial for analogue terrestrial TV connected you could not watch off the STB whilst recording from analogue TV. Again if your Panasonic is anything like mine it outputs on the SCARTs whatever source you have selected to record. So selecting BBC1 say to record would send that to the TV and disconnect the STB. However in your case this would not be any problem. |
