It has been announced that on the next series of You're Fired!, Dara will be replaced by Jack Dee, who is known for Lead Balloon, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and one of the Comic Relief Apprentice specials:

http://www.theguardian.com/media/201...oure-fired-bbc

Well, we knew Dara was leaving. Personally I was expecting Matt Edmondson to do it, given that he seems to have been very involved in the last few years. I don't know that much about Jack Dee, I hope he'll do a good job.

I thought the last series of You're Fired! was dreadful, and I'd actually given up on it by the end of the series. Maybe Jack Dee will inject some new life into it?

The thing that does concern me is that they've announced Romesh Ranganathan as a regular panelist. I'm even less familiar with his work than I am with Jack Dee's, but it does concern me that they've got a comedian. I think the amount of comedians was one of the main things that made the series bad before, because it became all about them and not enough about the candidates. I will reserve judgement until I've seen them together though.

Dreadful news for me.

Never really liked his comedy persona or his comedy TBH.
As for Romesh is a regular panellist, that is worse news as I find him rather smug as well as unfunny.

Too many 'comedians'. They'll all be vying to get attention and get their prepared jokes in.

I don't really know much about him either, but I agree, too many comedians! The main show has enough 'comedy.' YF shouldn't really be too much comedy IMO. I want serious discussion about the candidates, the opinions of the fired candidate, and unseen footage.

I don't actually mind comedy, so long as that isn't the point of the show. I thought Series 1 handled it really well (which accompanied Series 2, as Tim Campbell's series didn't have a You're Fired! programme). It was comedic, they had some really funny moments, but overall it was focussed on discussion with the candidate. You got to see some very different sides to them, which I liked. The fired candidates seem to be an afterthought these days. They also used to have a business psychologist as a regular panellist, and she gave some really interesting commentary on the remaining candidates, how they reacted with one another, what she thought was going to happen next etc.

If they had to have a comedian, I'd have chosen someone like Sandi Toksvig, who is hilarious, but can also be serious, and is really warm and friendly. (I met her recently, she's honestly lovely!)

Never seen much of Jack Dee so can't comment on him, but if you're going to have a comedian as a regular panelist (and I'm not sure they should), they could at least have gone for someone better than Romesh, who, apart from being on every comedy/panel related show going 3873 times in the last 4 days (ok, exaggeration, but he seems to be on everything multiple times), just isn't very funny at all. I'm more likely to be amused by a sandwich than Romesh.

I like them both but then I'm in trainning for the future series of grumpy old men!

I would have thought though that it would be better to have an opposite to Jacks trademark deadpan humour? (he can do lighter stuff) They are quite similar in their style of comedy.

I forgot to add, I really wanted it to be Matt Edmondson. He is funny, but in quite a serious way, and seems to be quite passionate about the show. I assume he is just too busy.

Terrible decision. Not exactly 'current' is he? Who was second choice? Jim Davidson?

I liked it when he did his red button/web shows. Maybe he was too busy to comit to the schedule or the execs thought he wasn't a big enough 'name'/ old enough to host?

For me he seems a bit lightweight to host a show like this.

Jack Dee is a fine choice, as with his deadpan humour he will not make it all about him (unlike most comedians) and he can also be very serious (for the people who don't know him; he also popped up in Dalziel & Pascoe episode years ago).

My main concern would be more about the business aspect, has he done enough research of the show to ask the correct questions? Say what you want about Chiles, but he was very good at asking the (right) questions.

Fear that with Romesh we are going to get some silly sketches again (also judging from his comment about his "business ideas for Lord Sugar"). Katherine Ryan would be a much better regular panellist, but she is probably busy with doing other stuff (saw that she presented a show about Hair recently).

If I was choosing, I would have chosen Nick Hewer, as he is very amusing and judging from Countdown a pretty successful television presenter in his own right, but also knows business and would know exactly the right questions to ask. Now he's stepped down as an advisor, it would have been a nice way to continue his involvement with the series.

Good choice, Fired desperately needed refreshing. As for the regular comedian, they always almost had a comedian on anyway didn't they?

Hewas probably offerd it or was in the short list but as he said when he stood down from the show he wanted to slow down a bit because he does do a lot if work. But I can't imagine that he won't be involved with the You'e Fired at some point and I really hope he's just done a job swap with Claude so we get him in the interveiws!

I think they probably will do that, but I hope that they do it because Nick is the right person for the job, not just because he's a familiar face. I thought Margaret was a terrible interviewer. I can't remember a single thing that I learned about any of the candidates, personally or professionally, from her interviews. She seemed to be there purely to embarrass them.

If I'd been Jordan Poulton, it would have gone like this:
Margaret: You've studied the greats in human history and cherry picked their knowledge, and as a result of that your role model is David Beckham.
Me/Jordan: As opposed to appearing annually on a reality TV show to read funny quotes from people's applications and pull faces at them, despite being a fully trained corporate lawyer and having a doctorate in papyrology, supposedly.

Hve just exposed yourself as Jordan Poulton?!

(I thought that she had retired as a lawyer? and left the adviser role so that she would have the time to complete her doctorate in papyrology?)

I'm not Jordan Poulton, honestly! But if I was, that's what I'd say.

I'm just saying that appearing to do nothing but pull faces at people is rather an odd thing for someone so well-qualified to do. I have no issue with Claude or Lord Sugar or anyone else doing it, because they are at least in a role that requires some form of critical thinking and intellectual capacity. Margaret was doing nothing of the sort.

Thank goodness it wasn't Matt. He is just awful in every way. I can't watch anything he's on.

I think Jack Dee will be good. Having a regular panellist is a mistake in my view.

Part of me is disappointed, I'm not a huge Jack Dee fan. I'm sure I'll get over it once it starts though, making fun of candidates will never get old.

Oh trust me, it can get old. I think Dara in particular never knew when to end a joke. I'm pretty sure we saw him make fun of Felipe referring to himself in the third person more times than we saw Felipe actually do it. He'd reference it every week practically and I was just thinking, 'Mate, as a comedian you really ought to realise that everyone is sick of that joke now.'

Point well made, that Felipe thing did get stale very fast.

I love Jack Dee. He's great as the presenter of I'm sorry I haven't a clue on Radio 4.

I would have preferred Jack Whitehall.

They should get Shappi Khorsandi. She would be a good addition to the panel.

I wish they could replace Romesh with her.

Indeed. Make it the same one each time might even allow a bit more depth, because he won't be starting from scratch each time. Not that You're Fire really does depth.

Only if they want the least funny comedian ever to walk the earth.
