I really liked Dara's upbeat style so I'm not sure how much I'll warm to Jack's more dreary effort. Guess we'll see. Romesh is similar to Jack too, makes me wonder what the overall tone of the show will be.

Feels odd so far to see Jack Dee playing it straight, normally he's in his grumpy persona.

He wasn't grumpy??
The new format and set design will take some getting used to. I hope Romesh doesn't do a sketch every week as that will get tedious. And as ive signed up to be in the audience I hope I'm not in the seats behind them |

I enjoyed most of the show tonight but I would change 2 things:
1) Cut out the annoying sketches and just focus more on the candidates. Dan was great and there is no need to cut back on his time to fit in an unnecessary, unfunny sketch 2) Use one big table for everyone, felt weird that the panelists were separate Thought Jack was good as host. |

Jack wasn't playing his stand up persona so that was good. Overall I liked him. Hate the new set though, so dark and minimalist it was almost Orwellian.
![]() Think it was better than I thought it would be though, so, yeah, enjoyable enough.

Romesh was really good (apart from the filmed sketch which was limp and unfunny). Jack Dee a bit uncertain at times and not looking at the camera enough.
The set design is strange and off-putting. A strange mix of Room 101 and A Question of Sport. Putting Jack and the fired candidate at a larger and higher desk so far away from the other three is pointlessly disconnected. There was an odd moment when the ex-candidate entered from the central door (on Jack's right) then had to shuffle past him to sit on his left. |

I quilte like Jack Dee, but I really miss Dara's easy Irish charm on this show.
And the new set design was just horrible. What were they thinking, whoever designed that? It now has a horrible disconnected feel to it. |

I guess with Dara moving on they though it was a chance to refreshen, but it all looked very awkward - the panelists especially looked stuck out in the middle of nowhere, and there wasn't the easy flow to the show as in previous years - though a lot of that was down to Dara obviously. No doubt somebody somewhere picked up a nice fee for making a show's set look worse. I thought Jack did OK, sure he will settle in to it as the series goes on. |

I thought Jack was great and a BIG improvement on Dara. Far too often Dara would milk jokes to an agonising degree, and piggy back on the jokes of others. Jack seems more laid back too.

Would like to have seen Simon Amstell presenting the show rather than Jack Dee but he did ok.
The new set is bloody awful and if they are going to have Romesh as a regular he should be sitting at the table with Jack and the fired apprentice. Dara didn't feel the need to change the set when he took over from Adrian Chiles and it worked very well. This just doesn't have the same vibe anymore. |

Something definitely felt a bit 'off' to me and I can't completely put my finger on it.
As many have already said, the set design is odd and adds nothing. They didn't overhaul the production when the host switched from Chiles to Dara so why now? The three guests look isolated and it almost felt as if they were there for a job interview without a desk in front of them. I think Jack had a promising debut as host but even having dropped the grumpy persona, I can't help but think it needs a bit more lightness (again not helped by the new dimly-lighted set). Romesh can be funny but he also has good observations on the show. I just wish he'd stop trying to shoehorn a joke into every comment, as it doesn't feel necessary. Big fan of Edmondson on this and his passion and interest in the series really comes through, so can't help but feel he'd have made a better regular, with the ability to switch between comedy and genuine analysis more smoother. Bring back two business guests as well, we don't need three comedians (Dee included) battling it out for laughs! |

Bluntly I thought it was crap - Jack was awkward and amaterish, Romesh wasnt funny (and why is he a regular panelist?) The set was naff and as someone said the panellists were stuck out in the middle of nowhere.
total let down. |

Don't think Dee did overly great last night but he might improve.
Ranganathan is a shocking choice as a regular panellist, if only because he's less funny than a burnt slice of toast, but sadly it seems like we're stuck with him. Odd having the guests so out of the way, almost like they're on a different show. The set looks terrible, and it's probably not that great if you're in the audience behind everyone. It also seems extremely dark. That was literally my first thought when Jack walked on set. Surely they can brighten it up a bit? Almost looks like in terms of the lighting they came up with something between a horror movie and a funeral. Dark and dreary. Shocking set design overall though. |

Jack Dee is painfully unfunny and his peak was about 20 years ago.
I was very surprised that the comedy theme they wish to go with they could not get someone a bit more current |

I turned off after five minutes, I couldn't take any more.
![]() The new set was more suited to a Newsnight spin off than an Apprentice one. |

I thought that one point Jack was doing his Nicholas Parsons impression from "I'm Sorry I Haven't a clue". (the "Just a minim" round)
I was expecting him to ask Romesh for his comments without deviation, hesitation or repetition Personally I would have preferred a host who has done a "Proper job" in the past. John Bishop was a successful Sales manager for many years. Katherine Ryan was a senior executive for the "Hooters" bar chain |

Very much better tonight, though the set is still terrible. The whole thing was sharper and it helped that Aisha responded well. Jack Dee was much more on the ball, Romesh was excellent and the other panel members were good value.

I'm not usually a Jack Dee fan but really like his approach to this programme. I thought Dara was too fond of hogging the camera and just bantering endlessly with his comedy mates. The fired candidate used to be left on the side lines for long periods whereas Jack allows them to participate much more. I do find Romesh generally unfunny and especially that VT which was as ill conceived as the Desert Secrets. I enjoyed both the Fired programmes much more than in previous series - and don't mind the minimalist set.

I feel like Romesh was very good tonight and there were flashes of Dee's regular style of humour "feel free to say whatever you like, Aisha won't listen anyway". I feel like once both those guys settle down into a groove the show could really improve.
However they need to revert back to the old set asap. |
