That was a slight joke
![]() Although I do think that forums like this probably play a part in television decisions. Producers want something that is going to appeal - that's why there are surveys for certain things - so reviews and public reactions to TV shows will contribute something at times. ![]() While it's true that public reaction plays it's part, I'd say it's not down to individual opinions as much as more of an overall public opinion. |

My bad, sometimes it's easy to misinterpret text on a screen.

Yes, absolutely. I felt like a lot of people had issues with it last year though.

To be honest I definitely preferred it last year. Everything about it was warmer and lighter, making for a far more enjoyable atomosphere. This year it just feels a little too grim and awkward.
![]() As people know, I'm quite knowledgable about past series of The Apprentice, and it had got to a stage where statistics about things were given out that I know to be factually incorrect. For example, Alex Mills was not the first Welsh candidate. Sophie Kain from Series 3 was from Wales, as was one of the Junior Apprentice people, so actually Alex was the third. Robert Goodwin was described as being 'the first ever person to be fired without even being brought to the final boardroom' - actually, Jenny Celerier in Series 4 was as well. Also (I think - I haven't remembered this one myself, I've only read it on this forum, so may be wrong) it was mentioned that Robert was the tallest candidate ever, when actually Matthew Palmer was. I found it irritating that the producers were focussing so much on casual viewers that they weren't even bothering to get their facts right. I realise that this is something that most people aren't even going to notice, but for someone like me who has been heavily invested in past series, this rankles. (Actually this year the main programme was just as bad, with Lord Sugar claiming that this was the first time that they have started out with mixed-gender teams, when they did that in Series 3 as well, albeit by only one person on each side, but I'd argue it still counts. It's one thing for producers who might not have been working on the show that long to mess up, but quite another for Lord Sugar who was there and ought to remember.) Finally, I found that for last series in particular, the amount of multiple firings meant that the issues with not giving enough attention to the fired candidates were exacerbated, because they needed to rush through them to interview the next person. I realise that that isn't the You're Fired! people's fault, but I think when more than one person is fired they should interview them together, rather than one at a time, so that they get more time onscreen and they don't need to hurry through it. Obviously it hasn't happened yet this series so I don't know how they'll do it - I hope they make that improvement. |

One aspect of the new set probably helps and hinders. The panellists sit in a straight line, in the dark, a long way from Jack and the candidate. Because they cannot properly see each other, they cannot pick up on the non-verbal cues we all use in normal conversation.
On the one hand, this means the conversation is slightly stilted, and perhaps not enough use is made of the industry expert guest, who is least accustomed to being on camera. Things used to flow more easily when everyone sat round a table. But maybe it is also a good thing if it helps prevent what GM and others complained of above -- excessive banter between Dara and the guest comedian: Jack and Romesh so far have not fallen into this trap, perhaps because of the more formal handovers needed in the new arrangement. |

Maybe Jimmy Carr might have made a good host?

I'm not aware of anything similar he's done. He's hosted humorous quiz shows, but not done any interviewing or chat stuff. The closest he's come to being serious is on QI, and I do think You're Fired needs at least some serious discussion. I'm not saying he can't do it, but it would be a departure for him.
They could always have put Adrian Chiles back in as host, now he's back with the BBC. |

^^ I saw those things, but I don't think his role in either is much like You're Fired. Mitchelle's was, in that he had some one-on-one interviews that attempted some serious discussion.

Just got round to watching the first episode.
Set is dark, badly lit and parts of it look like they were robbed off the Krypton Factor set and like a cross between Room 101 and mastermind. It all feels very disjointed and awkward Jack Dee is out of his comfort zone and overall I found it very dismal and boring. Bake Off Extra Slice followed the You're Fired format and the way the guests were arranged around the table, the comedy banter, bright fresh looking set, light hearted atmosphere etc is a winning format so why change it? Unlike some people here I actually prefer Dara to Jack and found this way too dark, serious and boring. Even the bits that were supposed to be funny weren't funny. Also having Romesh as a regular guest is a bad move. He's this year's Sarah Millican, in that he seems to be getting his smug mug everywhere just lately. Personally I'm not a fan. So much so I turned off when it got to his V.T. I used to like You're Fired but don't think I'll watching any more. Dark, boring, unfunny and disjointed. Sorry but it just doesn't work for me. Biggest mistake I feel is the set design. It's ruined the whole feel and atmosphere of the show. |

I thought this week's episode was better, but that could have been Ruth's personality rubbing off on everyone! Even Jack Dee couldn't help a little smile this week.
Susan Calman was quite amusing, especially about Brett's promotion of the cat toy. I wonder if they have been taking notice of the feedback on social media because there wasn't a "comedy" VT this week. Romesh was better though and gave some good comments on the candidates. We didn't need the reappearance of the chicken in the hi-viz jacket though. The owner added nothing and was boring. Still prefer the old show and hate the new set design. |

I definitely prefer it with Dara but I thought this week showed a slightly "edgy" side to it by pointing out Lord Sugars hilariously bad location-to-task transition and also by gently ribbing him for his "sod off" comment. You're Fired in the past has generally steered well clear of Lord Sugar, Nick and Karen (with a couple of exceptions) so I feel like if they did more ribbing of them it could have its own identity...Still, the set is godawful no matter how you look at it.
![]() Also thought Jack seemed kind of uncomfortable around Ruth's effervescent personality? Whereas I think Dara would have fed off if. Just interesting to note I felt. ![]() Ruth, like Jenny last week, seemed very nice. Makes me wonder about the type of contestant you need to be in order to survive The Apprentice. |

I see the "comedy" VT was back after a week's break, worse luck.
The parting gifts have been appalling this series too. I bet most go in the bin. I think Natalie's definitely was! |
