So Three implemented one half of IMS and Vodafone the other half...
Shame Three aren't buying Vodafone then.... that would make a whole.

I've just had a really good idea... why don't these networks GET THE ****** SYSTEM WORKING PROPERLY BEFORE LAUNCH... goddammit.

What's the betting that on EE, just like with WiFi calling, we will wait ages for VoLTE but when it comes it will actually do what it says on the tin?

Haha I think you mean Vodafone buying Three which could actually be a possibility if the Three/O2 deal falls through.

Has anyone heard any news on when this will roll out beyond the iPhone 6s/+? It's annoying it's not even available on the iPhone 6/+.

I asked customer relations when they called me to discuss my complaint and was told it's a commercial decision to restrict and he couldn't tell me anything more

If the Three/o2 merger doesn't get the go-ahead I doubt there is any possibility that a Vodafone/Three one would either.

Voda should buy 02 It would make so much sense imo due to Cornerstone mast sharing etc shame it wont happen, maybe they could re name o2 Voda-light for low demand users

Not sure honestly the combined company wouldn't be much bigger than EE unlike the O2/3 Merger will be.

The biggest problem is the competition issue of 4 networks becoming 3, same problem with a Voda/Three merger.

Its annoying as they have the technology and could go head to head with EE, but choose not to. Maybe their IMS platform is so new and keeps falling over they want the small number of people with iPhone 6s handsets (not corporate) testing it.

Perhaps they're about to launch VoLTE and will turn on WiFi calling at the same time for VoLTE capable handsets?

Who knows.

Indeed. BT coming in doesn't have the same result. You still have 4 networks.
I mean obviously post BT the whole thing will be a complete balls up, with foreign CS, no investment and I'm not quite sure I can stomach having BT WiFi call on my status bar.
But hey ho... that's progress!
Just gotta hope they get all the masts done and 90% geographic before BT come in and start employing a roll-out strategy similar to their commercial FTTC plan.
Just imagine, post 2020 we'll probably have 35% 5G coverage and that will be it!

10%, other 60% tax-payer funded. More money blown on sports rights.

Texting TRIAL to 97888 will get you registered for the trial. They may not pick you I am unsure, I was told I would get a call back 10 days ago from ICM....so far nothing

I texted from my iPhone 6 and got a response "thanks for entering your Samsung Galaxy S6 in our trial". Oh. That won't work too well

did Vodafone ever give a firmer date than "this Summer"? Customer Relations called again after a complaint to say they still don;t know when this will be made available to iPhone 6 devices

If you have an S6/EDGE supplied directly from Vodafone, text CALLING to 97888

Its supposed to be limited to trialists, I am part of that on one of my lines, texting the number enabled it on my other one (not part of trial).

It says they'll add it to my account when I text it from my 6 plus. It just depends on if the settings are on there I presume.

i've been told that a few times by different "advisers" and others told me it's already set up on my account

bottom line is Vodafone made a commercial decision to restrict wifi calling to the latest handsets but won't say why

The reason why is quite clear, to entice customers to upgrade to the latest handsets and tie them into a further 24 month contract!

They might want to test it in a small number of subscribers and then release it to more devices. However, they have delayed it too much already.
It does what it says, WiFi calling but it's not perfect: No SMS through WiFi Calling, no hand off from and to the macro network. (hand off will probably come with VoLTE)

they said release date was Summer this year, then only made it available to the new released phones with no explanation or idea when they are going to make it available to phone like the iPhone 6 that already support it

so they've lost my custom and I will be leaving once my contract ends

Vodafone are having issues with Apple and WiFi calling at present. It is an Apple issue not a Vodafone one and should be fixed in the next iOS software update.
