I find EE WiFi calling to be a blessing and a curse. I only turn it on when I'm in an area with no signal but wifi, as there are odd downsides. People on non BT landlines, such as TalkTalk, often think I'm an international caller (with no CLID) and some public WiFi hotspots are so congested you get very poor voice quality. This is where the 3G with HD voice can easily win.
So I can see why Vodafone have set it to automatically use the 'better' technology - using WiFi to fill in where the cellular signal vanishes. A nice easy to find toggle switch on both Android and iPhone would be useful - not the current design of a few levels deep as you hardly need to switch it.”
On the first point, I make a few calls but not so many that I'm going to dent the 15GB allowance. Now I have 4G it's probably going up to 30 or 50GB anyway (for the business).
I agree with you on the other points.
It's certainly not perfect and I have had a few comments as to the international number.
I thought EE were working on a fix for this.
Most of the WiFi I go on is home WiFi so yes, I can see there would be a problem with congested public networks.
Went to Exeter Airport a while ago and EE's cellular there was appalling I have to say. In an international airport!!??
The "free" WiFi was totally congested (about half a meg up and down) but I did make a call that at least stayed connected. It wasn't great though, I agree.
Maybe EE will adjust configurations once 800 is fully rolled out.
