Jamie's latest revelation
I watched Jamie Oliver's new show last night and she teased the viewers with a new way to cook eggs.
What you do is put a tiny bit of oil into a non stick pan, add the egg and then put a lid on the pan. What's that Jamie? Oh you mean you steam fry it like people have been doing for years and years? Quite the revelation. |

I don't know if you get the commercials over there that we have, but there was one this summer with him making burgers on the barbecue and he's "assembling" them with some girl and says, "then you put the top of the bun on...". Gosh, Jamie, she never would have figured that one out on her own. Whatever next, a recipe for a cheese and pickle sandwich?

He's done very well and made millions for a bloke who is a very average chef running very average restaurants. My experience at Jamie's Italian the other month was appalling.

I don't agree with posh fried eggs. From Jamie's site: "You want this to be a gentle method of cooking – if the oil gets too hot too fast, you'll end up with crispy, bubbly eggs, when you want them to be soft and silky." No I don't. If I wanted them like that, I'd poach them in boiling water. I want fried eggs to be crispy and bubbly, with a crunchy texture.

I like him, his shows and his books... although I find his restaurants are average at best. There, I said it.

1x mug or bowl, add lil bit of oil to stop sticking, add eggs, nuke for 2-3mins depending on microwave, bowl and how well you like them cooked. And while they're cooking, butter some bread (real butter!), spread some marmite & then add eggs when they're done. Assemble by sticking another slice of bread on top of egg to make what was known in the past as a 'sandwich'. Now, where's mah TV show?

You only get a TV show if you serve it on a chopping board beside a bowl of salad with some kind of fruit in (usually pomegranate) and drizzled with olive oil.
Full English Breakfast on a chopping board. I like this as it saves washing up. Served with a tossed salad that has fruit, if there was some in the bin where it was tossed.. So, my TV show? Best thing about JO is his enthusiasm and down-to-earth nature, especially as he sprang onto screen around the time I think Lloyd Grossman was active. He of the odd accent. JO was probably somewhat more useful at getting students to identify and start cooking more than a ready meal. |

And I had one of the finest pork chops I've ever eaten on one of his restaurants

I love going to Jamie's in Birmigham, he annoys the shit out of me when he says "style it out style it out" really grinds my gears for some reason.

I like Jamie Oliver, unlike most chefs a huge majority of the food he cooks id eat and could see myself preparing. I have a couple of his books, I'm building my collection back up again after the ex took all of them. His Italian is nice to eat in, it's nothing special but it's decent enough.

I went to Union Jacks, his restaurant in Chiswick (now closed, I think), and it was awful. My husband's steak was tough as old boots and I had the tiniest bit of shriveled-up sea bass I've ever seen. I've also been to Fifteen a couple of times - it wasn't bad, but nothing special.

I always found it funny that he was lecturing people about being healthy, yet was overweight and looked very unhealthy himself.
