Two questions about tonight's EE.
1) When Phil came back from being on the run and he found out Kathy was dead, I distinctly remember him asking Peggy and Ian "And what about Ben? Is he with this Graham geezer?" then Ian corrected him and said "Gavin" to which Phil replied "Gavin...Whatever...". Yet in tonight's episode, Phil recognised Gavin as if he already knows him. Surely if he knew him from when Gavin previously lived in Walford, he wouldn't have got his name mixed up?
2) Even more confusingly, why was Kathy phoning The Vic constantly throughout the week and hanging up when Mick answered? Why wouldn't she just say "Is Tracey there, please?". She doesn't know Mick, she didn't know his voice, Mick doesn't know hers, he'd have suspected nothing. She could have got through to her a lot quicker.

Pretty obvious it was Gavin when a man turned up where Kathy said she'd be. Phil may have also seen Gavin.
Why Kathy called The Vic at all is a mystery though. |

Good questions. Maybe Phil was too young to remember Gavin or not on the square at the time. I'm assuming that Kathy has shown Phil pictures of Gavin or Phil just assumed that the ominous man was Gavin after he couldn't find Kathy. I think Kathy spoke so much about Gavin that Phil feels like he already knows him (and doesn't like him)
Maybe Kathy didn't know that there was a new owner at the Vic (although I'm sure Phil would've told her). It would've been a bit weird to say that you called to speak to Tracey the barmaid since I don't think anyone has ever done that Also Kathy left 10+ years ago so I'm surprised Tracey recognised her voice and when Mick picked up, she could've subtly hid her voice since I wouldn't think that many people she used to know would remember how she talks, especially over a phone. |

It did seem like Phil and gavin knew each other, and as gavin knew Ronnie's dad chances are he knew phil's dad too?

Phil met Gavin briefly when he visited South Africa back in 00s he didn't like Gavin for obvious reasons.
We don't know if Gavin lived in Walford but we now know for certain he knew Den and obviously knew Ted Hills which would be how Kathy met him, he knows the Mitchells from way back as well it seems as he mentioned Archie. The phone thing, well you're right, would of made more sense if she just asked for Tracey. |

Did Phil ever go out to SA to spend time with Ben? I think he might have. Or he's seen photos. I'm not sure he is supposed to have known him from when Gavin lived in London. I get the impression that photo was from the mid or late 60s when Phil would still have been a child and both Gavin and Ted moved away soon afterwards. It was stated that Ted hadn't lived there for 20 years or more when he came back in the mid 90s - you'd think the same of Gavin or Ian would have remembered him and we know ian visited Kathy (and Gavin) in SA.
Why Kathy didn't just ask to speak to Tracey - god knows as the OP is right - Mick wouldn't have recognised her voice or even have wondered about the name if he asked who she was - millions of Kathy's in the world. |

Tracey is an old fashioned heavy breather.

How did Kathy know that Tracey still works at the Vic, or even that some family she doesn't know runs it? Unless Phil had a nice catch up chat with her about the goings on in Walford all these years I just don't know how she'd have any way of knowing.
She asked "can I speak to Tracey" when she finally answered Mick. Surely it would've been more logical if she asked "does someone called Tracey still work at this pub"? |

I think somebody asking to actually speak to Tracy would have made anybody suspicious.

Maybe it's because when they killed Gavin and Kathy off they never expected them to return from the dead

Kathy looks like she is being abused definitely mentally she wouldn't want to risk speaking to anyone she didn't know and not even knowing if Tracey still worked there.

I don't recall Phil ever visiting South Africa when Kathy lived there, Ian used to visit almost annually in the early 00s but I cant remember Phil ever going. So yesterday's episode would have been the first time Phil and Gavin met. Its not surprising Phil recognised him though Ben is bound to have photographs of Kathy and Gavin together. When Ben first returned from South Africa after Kathy and Gavin's 'deaths' it was made clear that Ben had been very close to his stepfather.
