Yes I recall this conversation before, and on general discussion. Amazing how much can be said about an electric kettle

We've had this in BB before too I think. Didn't someone put stock cubes in the kettle to make stock?”

Well I know they have them in Scandinavia, They drink tons of coffee up there. I think they'd go bankrupt if they always went out to coffee shops for it .

That I can believe. If I lived in Scandinavia I think I would have to build a still too!

Gotta say there are huge numbers of coffee places these days and a couple of tea chains as well. Plus a lot of people own coffee machines. Pick a neighborhood anywhere in a city in the US and search on coffee.

This is a common tactic of the producers, to show US housemates who are confused by electric kettles. We had it with Karissa & Kristina and Courtney Stodden.

Quite mean really. I wouldn't know what to do with a kitchen gadget I had likely never seen before.

That's kind of my point. There are a huge number of coffee places, so they go out for coffee and drink less instant.

I remember being bemused watching an episode of friends where I think Chandler and Ross decide to make coffee at home because they're scared off by some guys at central perk and they go on about how disgusting it is! It's the little cultural quirks

It is rare to find a kettle in an American household. We had one, it was tiny and I swear it would take about 15 minutes to boil!

That whole bit was shown to try make her look stupid.

To be fair she didn't know how to tell if a potato was cooked either.

They do tend to use the whistler kettles on a hob in America. They're not great tea drinkers, and they have fancy coffee makers in most kitchens.

At least she didn't try to put the electric kettle on the hob.

Americans don't drink tea like us the like their coffee,if I was in the American BB I wouldn't know how to use a coffee percolater as I don't drink it can't stand the stuff yuk,but each to their own I suppose.

Ummm, she's American. Most don't drink tea. Or instant coffee. I know instant coffee is big in the UK, but it went out of practice in about the 50s. In America, we drink brewed coffee, or espresso.

And yes, most would boil a tea kettle on the stove. I do have an electric kettle. I think they're becoming a bit more common. I only got my first one maybe five years ago.

Well they don't drink much tea, and they use a meagre 110v vs our 230v... So it wouldn't boil that fast anyway...

most UK electric kettles don't take long to boil - a couple of minutes. boiling water on a stove takes far longer

Well, Courtney Stodden for example boiled her Cup-a-Soup INSIDE the kettle.

I'm sure they all figure it out quickly, but I can't judge them for being a bit taken aback by it at first.

Not if you have an induction hob. It boils more or less as quickly as an electric kettle. Well, at least mine does.

I know this because I decided to buy a whistling kettle to put on the hob in case we had a power cut (which we have had quite often). Only to realise once I got it home, that I also have an electric hob 'doh'.

But I've kept it in case my electric kettle goes bottoms up.

"Yanks" tend to drink more hot tea, because it's cold up there. Southerners tend to drink more iced tea, because it's a more tropical climate.

Oh wait, you meant Americans? Well, Americans don't drink much tea. I think it has something to do with that dumping of it in the harbor when we kicked your sorry butts out of the country.

I'm American, and I love my electric kettle.....but I know I'm a rarity for having one. Nearly every home has an electric coffee maker. I can't be bothered to have one because I am a tea drinker.

Farrah probably microwaves water to make a hot drink. Blech.

Once again, I love the British and the UK. I don't love all the ignorance and the nasty statements on this board. Forgive me for occasionally lashing back. I am American after all. And you know we're all loud and argumentative.

She did not graduate from culinary school. She graduated from some institution (I don't know anything about it) with a Hospitality degree. That has to do with managing food & beverage establishments, hotels, tourism sites, etc.
