One of my cats went missing for 2 weeks and was found almost a week ago. He managed to escape the following day so I went straight to where he'd been found the day before and there he was!! He's been kept inside since because I don't want him wandering off again but I was wondering how long should i keep him in for? I was thinking 2 weeks but will the scent of where he wandered off to have gone by then?

Was it someone's house? Surely someone must be feeding him to go missing for that long. Keep him in for a bit and put a collar on him with an id tag on.
He wasn't at someones house but there are houses nearby and he had a perfume smell to him so I think he was was being fed by someone else.
He always has a collar on and he is chipped....i'm getting him a collar that states this. Do you think 2 weeks would be long enough?

We had a cat that disappeared after we moved a couple of miles away. My wife was very upset, but we got a phone call from people who bought our old house saying a black and white cat was hanging around, and didn't we have one?
It was our cat - how he found his way back I will never know, as I did not think his patch was that big (neutered cats do not generally roam so far.
This happened two or three times until he settled in new home.

I think 2 weeks is a bit long imo. Maybe try a week and give him plenty of treats. Then let him out

I'd be tempted to look at cat-proofing the garden if you can.

There's a cat that lives about four doors away from me that used to appear at my living room french windows wanting to be let in. I used to find it annoying, though one day the cat saw my pup and scarpered. Ironically the pup is more scared of cats than cats should be of the pup. He went up to one today wagging his take in a real submissive pose. This cat stands its ground against cats and will rip a dog's nose off with its claws rather than run away from a dog. My dog got hissed at but but went scratch free.
I think I'm waffling to say, it sounds like your cat found a second home as it were. Perhaps a GPS ID chip would help.

my sister had the same problem so she attached a note to Winstons collar saying "please dont feed me, I am on a special diet and regular food will make me really poorly"
she slightly over-aggarated the special diet - he was on a diet but only to loose weight - and once the other home stopped feeding him, he came home for his food

I would love to cat proof my garden but it's not an option.
Anyway, I let Ziggy out for the first time yesterday and by 11pm he wasn't home so me and hubby were working things out to go find him and after a few minutes he strolls in without a care in the world!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he knows no-one else will love him like I do.
But I have put a note in his little collar barrel saying he has a sensitive tummy and we have to be careful about what he eats.
At least I know exactly where to look if he goes off again.
