That does sound nice.

Potatoes, any kind - chipped, roasted, new, jacket, mashed, crisps, waffles, croquets, hash browns...

That reminds me of a story.

When I was young the only waffle I'd had was the sweet kind - with ice cream or whatever.

When potato waffles came out, I thought they were the same thing. I toasted them and had them with jam on

Hmm it really depends on my mood and a lot of other factors I suppose.

If I was starving for carbs I'd probably say the middle of a Quarter Pounder with Cheese at Maccy D's.... I went back home to Scotland recently and a poke of chips with salt 'n' sauce after a night out really hit the spot...I'd have a foodgasm for ackee & saltfish as I barely ever have the chance to eat it...if I was in 'foodie' mode it'd probably be a good duck confit or a plate of sushi....just can't narrow it down as it depends on my palate at the time...

Probably a really good, rare fillet steak served with creamy mash and veggies, preferably washed down with a nice old vine tempranillo.

Precede it with some steaming hot borscht and follow it up with a really rich cheesecake that's utterly bad for me and I'm in three course heaven!

On my first visit to Russia after I was married, we went to my OH's grandparents for the evening.

Granny Zoya is a tiny little dynamo of a lady, who made all sorts of tastyness, but one dish she made was mashed potato wrapped in a sort of pancake.

I snarfed it down and was looking about hoping the rest of my in laws didn't want more; so I could snarf the rest.

Which I did, I had four and was feeling very fat

The OH has tried to make them here, from granny's recipe, but they aren't so good. Every time we go back granny Zoya makes them especially for me.

Typing it out, it sounds a really bland dish, but, trust me it is epic

Waffling on, another must have is my granny Beryl's Christmas pudding. She makes it early doors from a recipe, which is on a manky piece of paper, written down years ago, and it is fed a bit of brandy now and then.

It takes a bit of effort to stir the mixture, and now as granny is 90, mum or dad have to go round during the process to stir, just stir, no one dares to interfere, they are just there for the muscle.

Some years back, when the OH and myself were going to Russia for their Christmas, we went round to stir and we took a big pudding with us, after our crimble.

It went down a storm, and my MIL took little portions to the New Years eve gathering and was handing it out to her friends, who also loved it.

Granny Beryl was well made up that her pud had gone international
