Is trailing right now on TV for £1.99 a week. A series of hardbacks on the complete history of the show from Doc1 to the present day.

But is it actually worth it? For a show as enduring as Doctor Who is this a collection that will never end? What happens when they catch up to the latest broadcast episode?

Anyone interested in collecting?

You'll probably find issue 1 is £1.99 but further issues will be more.

Why bother? Who is prepared to fork out that much money?

I saw this a few months ago. However the pricing makes it completely out of my range. I'm already collecting the Robert Harrop figurines, the Eaglemoss collection, and the DVDs! (Only 80 to go )

I just hate those things. £1.99 for the 1st issue or dvd or whatever, then the price goes up and the collection goes on forever. I suspect there won't be anything too enlightening on this collection, nothing that has not been covered in dwm, the dvd extra features or stuff you can find free on the net.

You are correct about DWM, most of these are from the Archives feature in that magazine, updated and in the case of some early ones, re-wrtten. I think that the collection will give the most comprehensive history of the programme and if I was 20 years younger I would be interested in buying it, but I will never get round to reading them. If they made them available on iPad for a cheaper price though I might be tempted.

I bought the first one two days ago. That one covers four stories during the 2007 series of DW; Gridlock, Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks, Lazarus Experiment and 42 from the script writing up to the original broadcasts and fan reactions.

Also covers any merchandise released for the stories, including the 5 inch Korwin from 42 included in the Series 3 figure set only. Plus great colour photos too.

I've got the 2006 book, Doctor Who the Inside Story, which is a behind the scenes guide to the making of series 1 and 2, so the new hardback book goes well with that.

I won't be buying every one. Only the ones that cover all of the making of Series 8 with Peter Capaldi, and the ones that cover the rest of Series 3.

So at least 80 volumes priced at £10 or £11 each. That's (not accounting for the discounted first couple of issues) £800 over the course of two years, nearly £900 for the premium. Surely anyone can see that no amount of high-quality book or magazine is worth that kind of money, especially with no assurance to when it will be completed - nor even if it will be completed.

Each to their own I guess.

Does anybody ever complete these things?! Build your own this and that, on and on and on. After the first few weeks I can't imagine they're easy to get in the shops.

Too rich for my blood. They look lovingly designed and everything, but, putting aside the cost, having read DWM, Books and fanzines over the years, I think my brain has got enough (probably way too much, let's be honest!) Who facts to keep me going for...well, ever, really!

Be nice if it does well, though. DWM is quality, and I understand Andrew Pixley is involved. Been reading his stuff since Issue 1 of the 'Timescreen' fanzine back in 198coughsplutter. A while back, anyway...

How many weeks did that run to? Was it a by post thing or could you pick it up in the shops? I'm impressed by your perseverance!

It went on for 304 issues, and it was available from the local newsagent.

I've just bought off eBay, two making of Doctor Who paperback books that came out in the 70s and 80s. They are in good condition. The first one 'The Making of Doctor Who' came out in 1976 and features Tom Baker on the front.

The second one came out in 1983 and features Peter Davison on the front. That one is called 'Doctor Who: The Making of a Television Series'.

They were on eBay going cheap, so, as I'm not going to be getting every issue of 'The Complete History', only select ones, I thought, "Why not."

I'm collecting them. We paid a pound extra, so get the additional comics too.

They are quite expensive, but the covers look cool, and they could be interesting to read.

It's so much easier when you can buy them at the newsagent. I collect The Eaglemoss issues, but trying to find them is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I've traveled the length and breadth of the country, and only managed to find ONE place that stocks them, and it's over two hours away.

I used to order a few issues online every couple of weeks, but they ****ed up the last order and didn't give me The Seventh Doctor I ordered, so I refuse to use them again. I didn't want to give up on the magazine though, as I really like the figures. I'd never bothered with Doctor Who until recently, so didn't start the collection until issue forty one, so I was always going to struggle to complete it, but because of THEIR incompetence, I've got further gaps in my collection. Hopefully this magazine will be less hassle, as it's being delivered.

I'm actually collecting the Star Trek ships collection from Eaglemoss at the moment. The models are pretty good for the price and the accompanying magazines give good background information both in 'verse and real world.

It's the first such part-work series I've tried to collect since I was a kid and it's not been without its difficulties. I jumped in at issue 20 and it took well over a year before the gaps were filled in. I've had missing issues, faulty models and duplicate issues.

The models are great, but Eaglemoss do seem to have their supply issues.

Part works do end up being expensive, but the cost is spread out over a long time, making it easier to afford. If it's something you really want, then go for it.

I bought the monster invasion set but what pissed me off is that you didnt even get all the cards you still had to buy extra. Even then you didnt get everything cos they made one bloody card so rare on purpose so fans would buy it for over 100 quid on ebay.

I did buy issue one for 1.99 but ill have to think about it if I want the rest. Id rather we get the classic series before the current era.

You should try doctor who websites where theres a buy and sell section.

Do you really intend to pay £800+ for a load of reference books containing information which is freely available elsewhere? I suppose the spine picture is nice, but won't you be infuriated in years to come if the later series don't get issues?

There's no going back now, I've already subscribed.

I would like to think they will continue doing it from series nine onward, but if they decide not too, it's not the end of the world. The spines show an image with all of the doctors, so I'd be more annoyed if I had gaps in the middle of the collection, than if I missed out on the stories still in the pipeline.

Id prefer it if issue 1 was issue 1.
