I'm very glad I watched the 'Secrets of Soap Super Brands' as I finally understand why Hollyoaks is the way it is.

BK said that they aim for the show to be very fast-paced and have three cliff hangers an episode. This is very evident! I'm quite glad it's been pointed out.

However, it lacks the realism and continuity the other soaps aim to at least try and have.

He also said the viewers have very short attention spans so that's also why it's fast paced.

He under-estimates viewers or think viewers want ridiculous ways to get the lads topless

I hate that I now watch out of habit - I don't really care about any character because there is no continuity with them at all.

What show is 'Secrets of Soap Super Brands'? What's it about? And where can I catch up? Would really appreciate it. Thank you.

And least he's come out and said it as its seemed very 'unexplained' if that's the right word.

It's really interesting, but BK intrigued me the most by his comments.

Basically everyone in Hollyoaks dies young or lives long enough to suddenly turn gay.

Well I watched it! BK doesn't come across well at all!! He takes us for mugs plus he's a bloody mess! DTC got over exited at times but you could tell he has a lot of passion when it comes to EE, you can clearly see BK doesn't care for HO the same way the other EP's care for their soaps.

They should bring Philip Redmomd back to HO as EP!

I think SB and DTC came across really well and their passion for the soaps is very evident.

I'd like to know who's doing research! So 18-34 year olds have short attention spans? I'm in that category and can happily sit through a two hour film and understand everything

He knows long term viewers have all but abandoned the show and it's only the sycophantic lap dogs on twitter that are left who think the Lovedays are boring and not well acted, Cindy going nuts is hilarious and always respond with OMG when a male castmember is shirtless.

That's true, and any long term viewers like me just go with it now and don't care about the show. The Lovedays are brilliantly acted but the storylines in general are atrocious - Lisa suddenly setting up business with Lockie who she met the same day? And Simone lending her the money?!!!

Way to insult your own viewers.

Yeh

It wouldn't be so bad if things weren't done just for shock value and forgotten about in an episode.

I think hollyoaks would be fine if it stopped going for serious storylines like male rape/domestic violence/bipolar and just admitted it's now an American soap just for British. Then it can have all the crap storylines they want. It's just that they keep going for storylines people can be affected by. I tune in every now and then but my love for hollyoaks is gone

I agree, it's an American soap in every way now.

I don't think its an American soap, Hollyoaks goes places the American soaps would never dare like Lockie humping anything with a hole, the incest story with Cleo and Porshe and all the violence stunts and deaths. I like others have said they should leave the social issues alone, one thing the American soaps got right is that those soaps like Days of Our Lives and Passions that did the crazy stories wouldn't tell social issues and left the serious stuff to the more realistic shows like All My Children and Young and the Restless.

What I mean though is to leave the serious stuff like what I mentioned above and the one in the McQueens with that guy and Porsche and Cleo to other soaps, and just have the who's sleeping with who and the disasters happening. If they did that then people might give them a different view. When they go serious it doesn't seem right anymore. They start off well then it goes wrong like Jps rape became just a way to get him and ste together.

You forgot go crazy.

Once upon a time rape was the fashion.

There is a scene on the Brookside Unfinished Business DVD where Tinhead looking for sympathy says 'I've been shot!' and Steve replies 'Who hasn't!?' I always think of that regards Hollyoaks recycling of storylines.
