I've just seen this and theres a good chance Pat is still in a coma.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieEyJ6hoj7A

Should Pat wake up in hospital in 2015? If so, what events were part of her dream since then and what events actually happened?

Or, would it work having Pat wake up a few minutes later back in 2008?

If Pat was back on the square, I would ask no questions.

I don't watch Emmerdale, but I must commend them for their treatment of Betty, and her exit. A long serving character doesn't need to leave in a box - it's very limiting in the long run. Yes they got their big rating for pats death - but was it worth it in the long run?

I love the thought of Pat sipping Sangria on the Costa Del Sol, popping back occasionally as and when she is needed.

They'd get do criticism from me.

We'd just never speak of "the episode".

I agree, bring her back and pretend she's never died. Just have all the characters treat her like she's come back from a holiday lol

I miss Pat

What made the decision to kill her off even more frustrating is the ridiculous exit they gave to Peggy. She decided to walk out on her family and leave the pub to her junkie alcoholic son.

It was a situation where these exits would have made more sense if they'd been the other way round. Pat moving to be WITH her family in New Zealand. Peggy's cancer returning and her death forcing Phil to reevaluate his life.

I like to think whoever made that decision to kill off Pat is being haunted by her for the rest of their life. Simply awful.

This is going to be controversial, and some people will hate me for this but it needs to be said.

I think that the Pat death was handled in such a fantastic way, the episodes were brilliant, the acting was good, the ratings went through the roof for the time therefore I thought it was one of Kirkwood's few good decisions. I thought the character had come to the end of the road, was becoming increasingly repetitive and actors know when they want a break that they risk being killed off so don't have a huge amount of sympathy for Pam either tbh. I just hope with the mistakes that were made of Den and Kathy, and the perceived mistake of Pat's death that EP's will in future consider the long term consequences of killing characters off. Thanks. And I am sorry to those who disagree and loved Pat but it is my opinion.

I would stop watching. I am giving dead Kathy a chance but am seriously considering stopping watching eastender. Bringing back pat would be a step too far.

Plus she hasnt exactly béen missed has she.

The poor woman dared to ask for a couple of months off-screen. Instead of writing in a visit to New Zealand or to Peggy, they killed off her character altogether.

It's funny how some people on the show seem to be allowed to schedule two-month breaks every year and just walk back into their jobs afterwards, no questions asked. Favouritism, anyone?

They do if Bryan Kirkwood is anything to do with it.
Look at Hollyoaks. He's not happy unless there's death.

One thing is for sure. If DTC was the EP instead of Kirkwood Pat would still be here.
Heather too actually.

I wouldn't stop watching but i'd be totally against the Idea. Kathy returning I was always for because she died off screen and the storyline they have got was she owed money,Gavin came up with the idea of faking their death to protect themselves as well as Ben and Ian. Kathy would rather stop seeing her son's if it meant they were out of danger but of course now she wants to see them again. She can't do it anymore.

Pat however died on screen of cancer with her family and friends around her. That can't be faked.

I agree

Apparently the same happened to Cheryl Fergison who played Heather. She wanted to time off to spend time her new husband who is from a different country. But they declined and ended up killing her off. There was a fair amount of favortism around Kirkwood and even Newman's reign with certain actors.

I think DTC is a lot fairer in that sense.

In some ways yes. Although he's been rather free with letting Sam Womack come and go though.

Speaking of Pat, DTC and a few others spoke about what characters they would bring back from the dead if they could. Surprisingly no-one said Pat though http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/eastender...2-71c1ec4f5152

I totally disagree, Pat should not have been killed off. Pat should have emigrated somewhere sunny with her young toy boy. She was a character who accepted life's knocks, she was a good agony aunt and had a warm heart. Killing her off was a huge mistake, although the scenes with Janine and David were good they should never have shoehorned in the Brannings who Pat had limited dealings with.

Killing off Pat was without a doubt the worst decision anyone has ever made in soap. Forget writing off a whole year as a dream or baby swap plots, Pats death was the biggest mistake a soap production has made.

The show is still feeling the affects today, it's why they had to bring Kathy back from the dead.

If Pat just walked into the Vic one day I wouldn't question it either.
