Heat protection for hair
I used to use a L'Oréal product which I bought from my hair salon, which was quite expensive, it was over £20. I'm sure there are other products out there that do the same job but aren't as expensive. This one was heat activated and lasted until the next time you washed your hair. Can anyone recommend anything else?

I use L'oreal's Studio Line 'Hot & Smooth' 3 day straight spray. It protects up to 230c & makes hair feel really smooth & soft. I'm not sure if you can still buy it as I bought it for £1.59 in Superdrug but it's good if you get some...
Wilko used to do a brilliant heat protection spray that only cost £1 but it worked so well. The Tresemme one works well too, as does Superdrugs own brand one. EDIT: The Studio Line one is £2.92 in Asda & 2 for £5 in Tesco

Heat protection for hair
I use Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan Oil leave in treatment applied mainly to the ends and partway up the hair shaft. I do this after every shampoo/condition and before drying and heat styling.
I was also told to use quality styling tools by my hairdresser. She recommended I get an Ultralight Pro Ionic hairdryer and a G3 Salon Pro hair straightener. However, I am seriously thinking about upgrading to the Karmin Salon Series hair straightener. |

With that level of heat on your hair you should buy the best irons you can afford. Eta: sorry just realised there is a UK Pro Naturals website

Where do you buy the Pro naturals range Lin, the oil looks like a very good product but doesn't seem easily available here. I hate hunting down products, especially ones that I really like!

The whole system is good and as I only use it for one week in every six the investment is really good value for money. I know the mask works better with steam but I cheat and use a thin towel soaked in water, squeezed and in the microwave for a couple of minutes and wrapped around hair under a shower cap until it cools completely. The other thing I do is use the argan oil leave in treatment after each shampoo/conditioner day even though it is outside of the six week cycle. I prefer to err on the side of caution re heat protection.

Did you ever see this? http://www.npr.org/sections/health-s...ntent=20150804 Check out the Karmin Salon Series hair straightener - I believe they are the 1st to market for this type. so I have to stump up the money for a new one, and they're really not cheap as I used the professional salon ones; worth it though. I'm going to a hair show next month so I may get a good deal on one. As an alternative you could use a hair dryer, just put your hair in a plastic cap and blast it with a hair dryer for a bit, doesn't quite have the same effect as steaming though. What I've realised with straightening is that the hair really needs to be intensely treated with conditioner or oils (or both) before straightening. If I intend to straighten I will always condition my hair overnight as I get better results. The heat of the irons sucks out all of the moisture in the hair so you need to counteract that damage by pumping some decent moisture in beforehand. When I do this my hair will always look that bit more silky and flowy. Sometimes I see people who have clearly straightened their hair, but it looks so dry; it's cause they haven't conditioned the hair properly. I already have a straightener which cost me an arm and leg so don't intend to replace that anytime soon. Karmin is a good brand though. If the Pro Naturals range is that good, I'll use it every week; so not that cheap for me! ![]() Apologies OP for going off topic somewhat. I would suggest some heat protectant but they're not that far off the price that you already pay |

I ended up getting the same one anyway, got it slightly cheaper online. I've started using Josie Maran argan oil every day and that's lovely, and elasticizer a couple of times, overnight. I'm determined to grow my hair, it hardly grows as I think it must break at a certain length. I think using my ghd's every day, cause lots of the damage.

If you want to keep all of your hair growth you're going to have to give up straightening every day or accept the length you've got now. It doesn't matter how much heat protectant you use, for most people, it is incredibly difficult to retain any hair growth if you're applying that much heat everyday, your ends can only take so much damage. I understand it, I love to straighten my hair too but having healthy hair is more important to me. I only straighten once every 3/4 weeks now. You'll probably need to have a good cut to get rid of the damage. |

They are sending me out another bottle of Argan Oil and a pot of the hair mask. Free. I nearly fell off my perch when I saw how much they were. Basically my straighteners have ended up costing me nothing! The oil is the best oil I've ever used. Quality product in quality glass packaging. |

My hair has grown some, it used to be an above the shoulders bob and now it's between my shoulders and my boobs, but that has taken a few years... But it's been like that length for ages now.. I was thinking it must be breaking, as the regrowth doesn't seem to match what is happening at the length.... So annoying!!!! I do get it trimmed, so split ends etc get taken care of. I've never really bothered with hair treatments etc, always concentrated more on my skin, but I'm making a real effort now and the elasticizer seems to make my hair much nicer, so hopefully, lay off the straighteners a bit and carry on with my treatments and see what happens. Thanks for the advice. |

I bought a Karmin G3 straightener direct from Karmin last year. Absolutely amazing, used to be a loyal GHD customer but jumped ship. Anyhow, a few weeks ago Karmin sent me an email saying if you leave a review of the G3's on Amazon or the like we will send you, completely free, a bottle of Pro Naturals Argan Oil. They were good to their word and I received it around 10 days later.

Same here. I use their Salon Series Ultralight Pro Ionic hair dryer and I also have the G3 Salon Pro hair straightener (that I use to curl my hair) and I received the same as you as a thank you.

I'm so impressed with the products and the company, the whole ethos, really feeling looked after by them, that I would definitely look into the whole range. |

Lushness & Morecowbell I received a newsletter update from Karmin Hair Tools introducing me to their 4 step hair repair system but they are also including the heat protector spray, might be well worth getting in on the ground floor???

Oh Lushness, you've broken my heart re the straighteners! I love my straighteners!

Thanks for the advice. As much as I would love long hair, I've had to accept that, as natural colour and my daily straightening are non negotiable, I can never grow my hair more than a couple of inches below my shoulders |
