Before the Flood

Anything to do with Waters of Mars?

Thanks for the correction Fixed it.

Probably not anything to do with Waters of Mars, the monsters look very different, but definitely worth keeping in mind.

Could Heaven Sent be a follow-up to Death in Heaven?

Perhaps UNIT seized the Timelord hard drive thingy and now Missy returns to do something with it and anyone still inside it.

Maybe the data slice will eventually be used as a rehash of the fob watch, with such a hard drive containing the minds of a load of Timelords, waiting to be restored to bodies.

I've also been wondering whether the explanation for Missy still being alive will simply be that she was in the data slice, so she's just a restored backup of the 'lost data' caused by the Brig.

All decent/good titles but nothing that leaps out like In The Forest Of The Night did last year (though the episode was a disaster imo) and nothing in your face like Kill The Moon, Mummy on the Orient Express, Lets Kill Hitler and Dinosaurs on a Spaceship that makes you wonder if its going to be a car crash or something that's enjoyably bonkers.

Curse those stunningly vague finale titles!
Not much to speculate on really. I like Before the Flood just because...it sounds nice.
Face the Raven is the MG episode yeah? Erm. Well he is well known for his love of classical horror so maybe a Poe reference? Desperate I know.

Sleep No More is a Shakespearean line, "the Scottish play", but that's probably irrelevant

I thought it was a Poe reference too, but it's not Gatiss' episode, that's Sleep No More. Face the Raven is Sarah Dollard's episode.

I wonder how such a unique ep ties into the finale than

Ah right. Thanks for the clarification! Could still be a Poe reference but it fits more with Gatiss in many ways.

Sleep No More is basically another way of saying Never Sleep Again which is a line from the Nursery rhyme repeated in Nightmare on Elm Street and also the title of a documentary (which is amazing btw) about the making of the Elm Street series which prominently features the famed producer and one-time director of the franchise...Rachael Talalay! It all totally means something!

Like I say, I think Shakespeare came up with it first

Yes but Shakespeare didn't direct Death in Heaven.

Maybe not - if the follow-up episode is Face the Raven, the raven was used in many of Shakepeare's plays to signify a sense of foreboding. Additionally, predicting the King's murder:

Quote:
“Spoken by Lady Macbeth, Macbeth Act 1 Scene 5

The raven himself is hoarse
That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan
Under my battlements. Come, you spirits
That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here,
And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full
Of direst cruelty! make thick my blood;
Stop up the access and passage to remorse,
That no compunctious visitings of nature
Shake my fell purpose, nor keep peace between
The effect and it! Come to my woman’s breasts,
And take my milk for gall, you murdering ministers,
Wherever in your sightless substances
You wait on nature’s mischief! Come, thick night,
And pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell,
That my keen knife see not the wound it makes,
Nor heaven peep through the blanket of the dark,
To cry ‘Hold, hold!’”

and the translation is:

Quote:
““The Raven Himself Is Hoarse” Soliloquy Translation:
‘Even the raven – the bird of death – that croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan under my battlements is hoarse,’ she said aloud. She closed her eyes and raised her arms to the sky. ‘Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts. Take all my femininity away and fill me from the crown to the toe top full of direst cruelty. Make thick my blood, stop me from feeling pity so that no natural feelings can get in the way.’

She put her hands on her breasts. ‘Come to my woman’s breasts, you spirits of evil, and suck gall from me where there should be milk. Come thick night and shroud me in the dunnest smoke of hell, so that my sharp knife won’t see the wound it makes, nor that the light of heaven peep through the blanket of the dark to cry, ‘stop! stop!’”

I would avoid reading The Witch's Familiar entry if you're spoiler free. That took ME by surprise.

Interesting that all of these are two-parters. It means that we only get six stories, which IMO isn't as good as lots of individual episodes. Then we get loads of different stories.

I didn't realise that ALL of the series was going to be full of two-parters. I knew that we were going to have more, but not all of the series.

They aren't all going to be 2 parters as far as we know.

I don't think 9 and 10 are connected at all.
11 will probably lead into 12 but will (I'm guessing) be it's own story.
While 5 and 6 have the same guest actress in them the stories themselves may well be only loosely connected (look at Adam in Dalek and The Long Game) if at all.

I think that Maisie will be the connective tissue for 5 and 6 in a plot way as well as just being a character present in both episodes. Especially if we take the titles literally.

As for 11 and 12, didn't Moff say somewhere that we had a three-parter? I think that 10 will lead into 11 in a Utopia/Turn Left kinda way and then we'll get something similar from 11 into 12 but I think you might be right, although they'll probably lead in they could well be separate stories as it were.

Did he? I know he talked about writing the cliffhanger to Ep 11 at some point giving the impression that 11 and 12 were a 2 parter but it could be that Ep11 is more like Closing Time with a scene at the end leading into Ep12 that's unrelated to the rest of ep11.
