I liked Paul, I think he was one of saving graces for 2002-2003 period with Janine.

It would be a major retcon to bring back Paul Trueman.

The one character who could be brought back is Jake Moon if there's a reason for him to be back. His status has never been confirmed (Alfie's return next year?). Plus we've never seen him die onscreen nor has anyone identified him as dead.

I would love paul to return. He was brilliant and a far better character than dull Anthony.

Except that Patrick identified his body.

I liked Paul, I'd like him back but it is not possible.

This was one of my many issues about bringing Kathy back from the dead (even though i liked her too) - that it would open the flood gates for everybody saying that other dead characters could also return.

I would love for Paul to come back. He was one of my fav characters and I was gutted when he was killed off. Paul dying felt true to the character in some way though. But with Kathy coming back, i can't see a return for a supposed dead character coming back for a very long time. Also bringing back dead characters can be a bit too much. It's best to come to term with the facts that our once fav characters are indeed dead.

I agree about Jake Moon though, as his body was never ever found. Once the actor is done with The Royals, a follow up to could easily work in a realistic and interesting storyline.

I had forgotten that actually. I thought the body was never found

Paul was a great character, but sadly he is very much dead. We saw Patrick identify his body.

I think Kathy was needed because of her connection to the Beales and Mitchell's, she is an original character and she will help to fill the void Pat left.

However Paul's role has now technically been filled by Vincent, if they wanted to bring in Patricks family they could bring in a nephew. Paul's only real link is Patrick.

Kathy is linked to Ian, Jane, Sharon, Martin, Phil, Ben, Dot, Bobby and Lauren. Kathy will be linked to several big story arcs in addition to her own plot.

So while Paul was a good character bringing him back from the dead is a definite no no from me.

Unfortunately it was. If they'd left it as his last shot being driven away they could have gotten away with it but they didn't.

They obviously learnt from that mistake a couple of years later with Jake Moon where there is enough ambiguity for a return.

I remember being surprised when his body was found and identified a couple of weeks after he'd left as i thought they were going to leave it up in the air.

Bring him back, Lucas v Paul v Vincent would be a interesting battle.

Paul was a great character in his day but he was killed off.
IMO it would be very silly if he came back from the dead.

Even Pat wouldn't interest me without her family. We've got enough characters rattling around talking about the good ol' days

Seconded. No matter how good a character they were first time round, and how big a mistake it was to kill them off.

The Jury's still out for me on Kathy's return, despite her probably having been my fave character in the first few years (except Angie) and believing there was loads of life (every pun intended) in the character when she was written out.

Again, agreed.

Pat was a wonderful character who probably should have been allowed to move to NZ allowing for a return rather than being killed off (though, stands ready to defend herself, i can see why they made the decision they did as it was unrealistic that she would leave Bianca and the kids having only recently got them back) the fact is she was killed off and that now must stand.

At this rate we'll be watching Ian have another breakdown, rocking in the corner clutching at his Catweazel beard in distress muttering "remove the head or destroy the brain".
