Female Artists who deliver, album after album
Just heard Lana's new album, it's not bad but it is no BTD. It seems she's followed the Lady Gaga pattern, incredible first album, alright second album, few amazing tracks but a lot of ... meh stuff, third album, not bad, but boring. (I am a huge Lana fan, love all her leaked side tracks).
Makes me appreciate more the ones who put out amazing albums no matter what. Pink, Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry come to mind. |

Funnily enough off the thread title I was going to suggest a certain Miss Del Rey instantly springs to mind as an artist who always delivers. She's practically released an album every year, all great (plus 2 hundred million unreleased songs floating about on the web) and personally I've rather liked what I've heard Honeymoon so far...but never mind...
Edit: Just noticed your list of artists that always make great albums at the end of that. Whilst the mention of the name Katy Perry nearly made me ruin my PC spewing coffee I was drinking out over the screen in hysterics, I wont argue, I'm beyond that now, I'll just smile and say we all have different tastes. |

You can't say Katy Perry has ever had an album that hasn't delivered in terms of sales/success and what her fans expected/wanted. I certainly never saw those opinions around the release of her last album anyhow. |

Sticking with Katy Perry as an example she's a single artist. She's all about big pop hits. She's not really my sort of thing, but credit where credit is due, I can't deny every now and again she'll come out with a song that will be one of the commercial hits of the year. Inbetween those big hit singles we get weaker songs. But then she'll come out with the next album that is the launch pad for the next BIG hit single. I don't think people really see her as an album artist so in the world she operates in that's not an issue.
She's ultimately very manufactured. She's a product that has to keep performing sales wise otherwise she'll be dropped in favour of a younger chick. But people that love her music don't care about that. They just like the fact that she's fun. Del Rey's the total opposite of that. She's alternative. She's dark. She's a songwriter. Her music is more about the album as an artistic whole than individual singles. I know you don't like Honeymoon for a lack of up-tempo songs, but I don't think Lana was ever going to provide that really, it’s not what she's about. The "problem" for Lana is people keep expecting her to make Born To Die 2.0 or even change direction completely and make something like Rihanna would do. She's clearly got absolutely no interest in doing that what-so-ever. What she is doing still sounds gorgeous to my ears. The new material sounds very jazzy to me, love it. Whether pop kids get that is another question, but on an artistic level I don't think it represents any failure or anything musically wrong. Perhaps the real question here is if an artist makes something that is artistically good but not commercial radio friendly dancey pop, why does that make it bad? To fans like me part of the appeal is the fact that Lana is going against the system on her own path rather than with it. In contrast to go back to Lady Gaga, her last album does represent something of a failure by her standards as she is still clearly chasing international fame and fortune with every release. She wants to dominate the pop arena and it didn't quiet come off for her last time. I don't think its finished her career off, but it might have caused a rethink for the next album. |

And I'll just add to that in only a couple of posts boy this has kinda gone off the original topic, but ya know I sometimes think that kinda fun
.If anybody else wants to please feel free to take it back to female artists that always deliver. For instance although not household names would we say there are scores of lesser known indie and even folk artists that always make cracking albums? Suggestions please. |

Up until 2013 I would have said Britney. But then Britney Jean happened...
Hopefully its just a blip and her next one delivers. |

And I really don't think people should be making snap judgements on the back of a poor LQ leak that was recorded on a phone in some Urban Outfitters. It is doing a disservice to Lana.

Kate Bush, although she has left big gaps in time between albums.
Janelle Monae, Mary J Blige, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Julia Holter.... |

Rihanna was known for releasing album after album (quality being open for debate although I think every single one delivers something). I say 'was' because it's approaching 3 years since Unapologetic which is an absolute age for Rihanna.
I think her albums always guarantee great pop hits and her album tracks are underrated because her singles are usually so big. But she's explored different genres in her albums from her Caribbean roots to the dark themed Rated R and the urban stuff she's done more recently. |

Yoko Ono hasn't dropped a dud in about 30 years - if only people would actually listen.

I'd like to add Laura Marling.
She's never released anything that I didn't like.

Missy Elliott although she hasn't released a new album in a decade. She was at Bestival over the weekend so perhaps a sign that she's returning. All her six albums are fantastic.
Also, Erykah Badu. |

Definitely agree with Pink and Kelly Clarkson, OP. Despite the negative feedback Christina Aguilera got about her last two albums, she has delivered on every one for me. A few others that spring to mind for me are Carrie Underwood, Missy Higgins and Taylor Swift.

Rihanna always delivers for me. Her albums normally divide opinions but apart from her debut album, I have and still enjoy her albums to date. They all offer something different.

I still listen to a few songs off Britney's debut album sometimes. It's cheesy but one has to remember she was only 16/17 when she recorded and released it. I was listening to BOMT (the song) not long ago.
