Because, imo, he's trying so hard to play the decent bloke & was probably quietly pleased that Austin shouted & swore, it gave him yet another opportunity to play the "I don't raise my voice at anyone, therefore I'm the better person" card.
What he fails to realise is, all the sly, snide comments & his attention seeking desperation show him in a far worse light than Austin getting genuinely angry & p***ed off.
