Lovely Pete/Boring Gilly
I think Anthony Quinlan is brilliant on Emmerdale as Pete. Drug dealing and beating up Ross aside, Pete is a lovely character who just deserves happiness.
I think Pete is a good example of how to write a nice character without them being boring. When Anthony was in Hollyoaks, he was just 'Rhys' mate' for about 5 years before he eventually had a couple of storylines before he left. What do other people think?

Lovely? Okay so he might not have planned on "killing" his brother but he didn't seek medical help when they were right next to a hospital. He then left Ross to rot and then accused Finn of being the reason Ross left.
Not the actions of someone who is lovely! |

I don't really think he's an example of a 'good' character not being boring because he's mostly dependent as a character on his family for interest, he wouldn't work on his own like Ross or even Finn would. Finn and Victoria are good examples of lovely characters that are still interesting to watch (although I find that Adumb ruins Victoria's scenes) although of course, some would disagree. I only really found Pete interesting when he thought he'd killed Ross and dumped him because it showed the start of another Cameron in him. And then it turned out Ross wasn't really dead and... meh back to boring Pete.

The trouble with Pete being momentarily more interesting was that he's totally unlikeable, so was far less watchable than Cameron. Despite his utterly awful deeds Cameron had charisma as a character and you saw different sides to him. Pete only ever seems to be aggressive, even when being "nice," because Anthony is such a poor actor and just shouts at everyone all the time. He could be reciting a Shakespearean sonnet to someone post-coitally and still sound like he was having a go at them. It's annoying and Pete's just a tedious, miserable, aggressive whingebag as a result. I think he'd probably be a very different character in the hands of a more capable actor. |

I still think he's lovely
He at least tries to do the right thing and the Ross incident was in the heat of the moment.

God Almighty, no. He's one of the most boring characters ever to appear in a soap. He's so dull if he was about to die and his life flashed before him, he wouldn't even be in it. I wonder what any woman would see in him. He's so wet you could wring him out.

They weren't right next to a hospital, they were in the middle of a wood. A man walking his dog there found him and dialled 999. I just wish he had been dead.
At the point where Pete first believed he had killed Ross, he was seconds away from a number of medical professionals, yet he decided it was a pointless excercise to seek help, and instead cut his losses and dumped the body. |

I still think Pete is a great character though, not to mention he has the most gorgeous eyes in Soap imo. He doesn't bore me in the slightest. Debbie should regret her latest stupid decision.

I wasn't a big fan of Pete at first but the Debbie/Ross crap has made me very sympathetic towards him. Debbie and his family are treating him like crap as if he did something wrong when it was Debbie and Ross who had the affair. And although I don't think Anthony Quinlan is as good of an actor as Danny Miller or Micheal Parr he is good enough actor and had some really good scenes since the reveal of the affair.

I agree, Ross totally had it coming, but Pete was an absolute fool to do what he did. |

LOL come on now Mark, beating your brother half to death and dumping his lifeless body in the middle of nowhere, then lying about his whereabouts are hardly the actions of an innocent man.

Pete acted out in anger in the heat of the moment by beating the crap out of Ross and then panicked when he thought he had killed Ross. What did you expect him to do? Happily step to the side and let Ross be with Debbie.
Over the years I've beat the crap out of my little brothers, but would like to think that if I'd hurt one bad enough, I'd seek medical assistance, and given that Pete had such assistance at his fingertips, it was incredibly stupid to ignore it and just get rid of the body IMO. I don't think the Bartons or Debbie would be half as pissed at Pete if he'd done just that....if Ross had died due to the fight it would have been a tragic turn of events, it was the deception of dumping his body which made it all the more macabre. |

Hmm no, as I said, Ross definitely had it coming, I don't for one minute blame Pete for punching Ross' lights out, but upon believing his brother was dead, he 'panicked' bundled him into the boot of a car and disposed of his body.

IDK I think people panic and do stupid things in situations like that. Its easy to say you wouldn't do that but who honestly knows how they would react when faced with a situation like that. I also think Debbie would still have been pissed because I think she will use it as an excuse to be with Ross. Now what are your feelings on

Drunk Pete was absolutely dire tonight. Between him and his apparent brother Adam, I felt like putting my foot through the telly.

Pete is a massive hypocrite. He's been violent himself dealt drugs and left someone to die all the way proclaiming himself as a good guy.
