Hi,

I could always tap (load) my Spotify app, play music, then leave it running whilst I surf the net on my phone.

Lately I've found though that the music stops playing. It's ok again if I just have Spotify running and don't attempt to go on the net.

Is there any suggestions how to overcome this please?

Open the App Store and search spotify, select reviews and then select app support.
If there's no answers report it to spotify.

Is it just a stutter or a cut out and you have to hit play again? This happened on my 6+ and Spotify didn't have an issue. From searching I did at the time consensus was that it might be a RAM issue that will be fixed by the new models.

Yes it's because of these video ads at the top of DS, the same thing happens with Apple Music too. Very annoying.

Thankyou for your replies. I shall do an experiment to see if it happens just with DS or on other websites too.

I strongly suspect it's the ads reason as this is a recent phenomenon.

I'd say it's a RAM issue for certain. Some tabs are causing background apps to be killed.

This forum with the new mobile skin ads that include autoplay ads (which happily played when I was roaming earlier this month) massively slow down page loads too.

Nah it's definitely just the ads taking over the sound. Spotify playback is paused by iOS it hasn't stuttered or been unloaded from ram etc.

It's ads like the ones now in use on DS that make me excited for the release of iOS content blockers later today.

Yes earlier this morning I had Spotify running whilst browsing DS. It was fine for half an hour whilst normal ads appeared, but as soon as a video ad popped up Spotify cut out.

I reported it to the mods and they said they'd contact their advertising department to see if anything could be done to overcome the problem.

Meanwhile, the above adblock app looks like it could be the answer, thanks Stig 👍🏻

Is it to do with Ram and a low Ram threshhold for culling running apps?

Is there a fixed threshhold or is it dynamic? Developers, it seem often have to find out by trial and error what the current levels are.
They are there for background tabs too and I suspect the new 2GB Ram iPhone changes everything.

Ah, I guess that makes sense. On Chrome (Android), I've not yet had any video ads play with sound (and I can't imagine I've always had the volume turned down).

They're a right PITA though and I do hope Android gets a native ad blocking system in due course, as the ad blocking browsers are clunky and using the VPN route is also far from ideal, reducing data speeds and bringing potential privacy issues (plus some want a monthly sub, which is a bit much to hide some ads).

It seems every few years, just as Digital Spy starts to get the forum going again and people come back, they decide to try some fancy new adverts - bloating pages to the point where they take ages to load, or even cause my browser to freeze and give errors. Then, invariably, people start to stop coming to the forum and the cycle repeats.

I know DS needs to make money to pay for the forum, but these ads are far too intrusive and I've been forced to use an ad blocker (something I generally don't believe in, and won't use for everything - especially sites where people rely on ad revenue for an income) or would otherwise just have to say thanks but goodbye to the forum.
