Really pleasantly surprised by this. I'm a Libertines fan and also a fan of Babyshambles (and loved Petes solo Grace/Wastelands album) but wasn't sure what to expect with the new Libs album but it's bloody great. A really enjoyable album, there's only one track that I'm not too keen on, (Fury Of Chonburi which is probably the closest track to their original stuff).
Saw them at Rock City last Monday too and they were on top form live.

(I'll sit and await all the Pete hate and junkie comments from people who've never heard any of his music).

I think it's a beautiful album, wonderfully written and performed.

I was shocked to hear they'd managed to even do an album so was double shocked when I listened to it and realised it was actually quite good.

It's a damn good album. I liked the Libertines earlier albums and I also liked Babyshambles and Dirty Pretty Things. Pete is a good songwriter but singing wise I prefer Carl's voice to Pete's tone deaf warbling. They make a good team together though and I think this new album is probably the best Libertines album, imo.

I don't think he's actually got a bad voice when he tries. On things such as "You're My Waterloo" and "Farmers Daughter" from the last Babyshambles album I think he sounds pretty good.

Saw them a few weeks ago so will give the album a listen. What I've heard so far sounds pretty decent though

Back when I was a teenager I was obsessed with their two albums, and although I don't think The Libertines' sound has aged particularly well I still consider them among the strongest records of their decade.

I wasn't too hot on this album though: it's too cleanly produced whilst trying to stick to the DIY neo-punk that made them famous. By far the best song is "You're My Waterloo," but that has always been one of my favourite songs of theirs - it has been in wide circulation in demo form for as long as I've been a fan, and it is nice to finally hear it completed.

If anyone was curious it seems the gig cancellations where due to Peter suffering an anxiety issue:

Thankfully it sounds like he decided to take a breather rather than turn to more negative fixes.. which is good to hear.

I'm a fan of the Libertines, Babyshambles, and Doherty too so pleased to see them releasing new work.

Can't Stand Me Now is a modern classic and probably not their only one. They get bad mainstream press but they are definitely very talented.

Hmmm the album is okay but nothing compared to their first two. Not sure I like them polishing up old demos either, I liked that they just sort of floated about and they'd sometimes play them live.

It's much better than I expected. Comeback albums often fail to match the work that gained the artist credibility in the first place but it's a solid album
