The Bastard Executioner (US Pace)
Anyone looking forward to this? Kurt Sutter's new medieval drama, it starts tonight on FX in the US. Synopsis from FX: Quote:
The Bastard Executioner is a blood-soaked, medieval epic that tells the story of Wilkin Brattle, a 14th century warrior, whose life is forever changed when a divine messenger beseeches him to lay down his sword and lead the life of another man: a journeyman executioner. Set in northern Wales during a time rife with rebellion and political upheaval, Wilkin must walk a tight rope between protecting his true identity while also serving a mysterious destiny. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMYmVvyGDF4Guided by Annora, a mystical healer whose seeming omniscience keeps Wilkin under her sway; manipulated by Milus Corbett, a devious Chamberlain with grand political aspirations; and driven by a deepening connection with the Baroness Lady Love, Wilkin struggles to navigate political, emotional and supernal pitfalls in his quest to understand his greater purpose. The two hour premiere is tonight, and as far as I can see it's scheduled for 10 episodes. This could either be massive or sink like a stone. |

I am waiting for a renewal but i can't wait to check it out, purely for Katey Sagel.

I loved it, thought some of the violence was not needed though.

I would think violence in a show with a title that is has would be needed.

I do agree it does warrant a great deal of violence but I thought killing the child and stabbing a pregnant woman in the stomach then showing the baby ripped out and to the side was not needed at all.

Typical Kurt Sutter fodder, loads of ott violence, bare arses & bad acting. I'll give it a couple of more episodes but it seems like a poor mans GOT to me.

This is a period drama. It doesn't belong in this forum.

1 million viewers for the recent episode which is quite frankly a flop for FX and for an expensive show like this

Episode 3 was alright. I find with Kurt Sutter's creations that it does take a while to set things up before things get going and this is no different. I am sticking with it as I am intrigued to see where this goes and because of Stephen Moyer. I am enjoying his different role. It's nice to see him break away from being Vampire Bill!
The snakes....I have a huge phobia of them so literally couldn't watch when they were showing. Lovely erm....display Annora has in her cave....weirdo! haha! |

I enjoyed the feature length opener. Yes, it was a bit violent to say the least but it did a good job of the set up and I'm interested in the characters.
I'll be sticking with it. |

I enjoyed the opener, but it definitely picked up in quality in episode 3. I'll be disappointed if this is a flop.

I thought they made it obvious. They showed the knife that pierced her stomach and then showed the templar with it as though it was his own.

Thanks, that's what I thought but just wanted to check. It was odd that Wilkin believed the Reeve so readily but didn't seem curious as to who the real killer was, despite the fact he's there for revenge.

I thought Annora killed her.
Didn't we see that Wilkin's wife recognised her killer? |

The whole thing with the goat-****er being a serial killer was an odd side story that will now never be resolved.
Still, at least most other things were tied up. |
