'Room To Roam' by The Waterboys.
Got terrible reviews when it came out although people seem more fond of it nowadays.

'Balance of Power' by Electric Light Orchestra. Actually the first album I ever bought. Still enjoy listening to the entire album nearly thirty years on. All Music rating 2/5.

also thought I'd add spice girls forever with the exception of wasting my time and get down with me a very good pop/r & b album even Victoria said it was good.

Transmission Vamp's debut album - 'Pop Art' (1988)

Universally criticised on release, listening back it wasn't just fun, it was really clever.

I'm with you on Glitter! I really like that album (but then I like the film too so what do I know . And no, I can't believe I've just admitted that either).

I'd say (and again, why am I admitting this) I actually really really loved Sugababes' Sweet 7. I'm probably one of 15 people that have it and actually still listen to it lol

The Man Who by Travis famously got a two star review in Q magazine.

I love every album from my most favorite singer James Otto no matter what the critics think of his music.

God bless you and him always!!!

Holly

P.S. Days Of Our Lives, Sunset Man, and Shake What God Gave Ya! are the names of his albums.

Just Whitney by Whitney Houston. I think it was her only album which Clive Davis wasn't a part of. It was released during the peak of the scandals surrounding her personal life, and it was either ignored or not well received like My Love Is Your Love. I think it's a really underrated album. A number of really good tunes IMO. Shame it went under the radar.

I think Kate Bush's album The Red Shoes is much better than given credit for. The only song on there I don't like is Why Should I Love You. The rest are fine and some, like And So Is Love and Moments of Pleasure are among my favourite songs of Kate's career. It deserves more credit than it's ever received.

The Killers - Sam's Town and Day & Age didn't get the recognition that they deserve IMO, two albums that were ballsy in the directions they took, rather than doing the easy and predictable thing of releasing a second and third album that were just a different version of their first album (as so many bands do) they took left turns and really did something different and offered fans interesting new flavours/styles. Those two albums are vastly underrated.

I agree with Sparkle & Hollie_Louise. Glitter is a fantastic album, also loved the film and it's not in any way as terrible as it's made out to be. But that's my own opinion.

Madonna's American Life.

It got a fairly mixed to negative reception at the time but it remains my favourite album of hers.

Q only gave What's the Story (Morning Glory) two stars, then overcompensated by giving Be here how five stars.

It's not my favourite Madonna album but I do think it's very good and got unfairly bashed just because it was Madonna releasing it.

Cracked rear view by Hootie and the blowfish.
The first half of the album really is great but it got slaughtered in the press.
Still listen to it now very often.

A lot of critics are receptive to most of the albums Madonna released from the 1980s up until the turn of the Millennium. American Life gets bashed because it's a bland and immature album. Madonna was trying to make her Like a Prayer for the 2000s but failed. She tried to record something deep, profound and insightful for the time, but it was just an amateur mess. People weren't interested in her being faux political which is why she camped it up big time on Confession to up her sales. American Life is nothing more than a rehash of Music except it didn't have a big hit or the good reviews like that album did. It's folktronica gone bad. It's a watered down Beth Orton/Air album. It's like Moon Safari and Trailer Park only without the great lyrics and interesting production.

I drive my mini cooper
And I'm feeling super-dooper
Yo they tell I'm a trooper

I wonder who wrote those profound lyrics. Madonna? Her co-writers? Whoever wrote them should be ashamed. Joni Mitchell/Kate Bush/Bob Dylan she isn't. Why didn't she play the acoustic guitar on the album? She's not listed in the credits. She knows a few chords to act like a rock star on stage for two minutes, but she isn't proficient enough on the instrument to play it in the studio which is why Mirwais did.

Madonna was a coward for pulling the original video for American Life, that's when people lost respect for her. The statement she released was a joke. Her pulling the video had nothing to do with showing respect and sensitivity towards the armed forces. She lost her nerve and bailed. War isn't a pretty subject, it's tough, it's brutal and it's dirty. Madonna doesn't have the depth or the talent to create an album that's a true and profound commentary on things like war, culture, society and politics. The imagery used during the album campaign was a mixture of Patty Hearst and Che Guevara. Is Madonna at all able to create something 100% original? Does she always have to borrow bits and pieces from other people? She was even sued for ripping off Guy Bourdin in her Hollywood music video. Die Another Day is one of THE worst Bond themes, no wonder it was nominated for a Razzie. Dire.
