No quotes from anyone involved in the show, not even Jenna herself

Typical tabloid nonsense

"Typical tabloid nonsense" is all well and good, but these 'typical tabloids' have an astonishingly good track record that is often overlooked. Without posting spoilers in a non-spoiler thread, The Mirror in particular has been right about numerous developments surrounding Series 9 so far - as well as times in the past.

I'm all for Jenna staying longer, but also suspect it may be her time to go as well. At any rate, I think I'll give them the benefit of the doubt at the moment. She was on the fence about staying last year, and with this year becomes the longest-serving modern companion with ease anyway. There's nothing official here, but when all signs point to it and they're a source with a solid track record they earn my attention at least...

She's gone. Didn't expect her to continue after this season anyway. Was hoping she might have come back to emmerdale but i think she has gone too big for that.

Whilst the article isn't saying anything new (the victoria role in relation to her possible leaving was being talked about on here a while ago), and doesn't quote any official source, I think it will be true nontheless, and will be more surprised if she stays on.

predictable...everybody expected her to leave.

Hey. We have all thought it and said it enough times. Being sceptical of the tabloids is usually the wisest default position. But when it comes to Doctor Who? Not so much. Fact is they've been more right than wrong in recent years. And to be fair this isn't news to anyone with the vaguest interest in the show. She signed on for an extra season. She won't be back after S9 almost certainly. So the Mirror are probably right on the money here.

I dont like the way people treated her saying her acting is bad and etc and making snide little jokes at her expense. The only thing keeping her there was money and her cast mate peter, giving her motivational speeches to stay on aswell as moffat

Companions come and go, It helps regenerate the show so to speak.

I have huge respect for clara and martha they were both truly strong female companions especially the shit ten put martha through meanwhile he held litlle rose tylers hand all the way. While martha was left to fend for herself against the family of blood and in the daleks in manhatten episode

Her longevity is quite divisive, and there are plenty who dislike her as is true of any companion (Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy and Clara have all had their haters) but I'd say she is still exceedingly popular. Certainly more so than Amy was.

I like her a lot myself, and have loved her in the role... she's second only to Donna for me, and it's a close one! Many of my friends who went off Doctor Who around Series 5/6 still admit that they like what they've seen from Clara.

I wouldn't be surprised. 3 years is a good stint in any show and she's a good actress

I expected it last year tbh, it was certainly due.

I look forward to new blood.

Just hope they don't kill her off.

It's silly to dismiss the story simply because it's in a tabloid. There aren't going to be quotes from Jenna or the show at this stage so that tells us nothing.

Whether it's true or not I really doubt we'll hear anything official from the Who production team, or from Jenna, until after the new series has ended.
If she is leaving, then they'll want to preserve the surprise of this for as long as possible, so any statement now saying that she's gone could possibly ruin the end of the season.
However, the tabloids sadly have no such problem in ruining any surprises or plot twists.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/t...-Victoria.html Jenna Coleman, the actress who plays Doctor Who companion Clara Oswald, has quit the show to take part in a £10 million ITV production about Queen Victoria.
Coleman, 29, will play the Queen in the eight-part drama, from when she took the throne aged 18 through the early part of her 63-year reign, the Daily Mirror reports.
The series, called Victoria, is written by novelist Daisy Goodwin.
Goodwin told the Mirror that Queen Victoria’s diaries gave “an astonishingly vivid picture of her transformation from a rebellious teenager”.
Coleman, who has appeared alongside Peter Capaldi and Matt Smith in Doctor Who, is thought to have filmed her final time-travelling scenes already.

Stories like this really annoy me! Saying she's quit when there's no official confirmation (it might be true, we just don't know!) and then in the last paragraph saying she's 'thought' to have filmed her final scenes.

Well, either she has or she hasn't, but I suppose you could say that the entire cast have filmed their final scenes....until they film their next one!

I would be very surprised if she stayed on for another series. I don't see her feeling like she has anywhere else to take Clara. It's a pity for the show because she's been brilliant (and tbh the only reason I kept watching in s8 despite the poorly written and characterised 12th Doctor in a series further hindered by a so-so bunch of stories) but she's the longest serving NuWho companion now, isn't she? At this point it'd be a bigger surprise if she stayed.

Of course the Mirror might be presuming she's quit from the fact she's signed up for something else - has it even been 100% confirmed we're getting a full series of DW next year? There could be room for her to do both if the DW schedule does indeed get shortened/pushed back to accommodate Sherlock.

Actors know they are going to get people who don't like what they are doing in pretty much any acting role in a popular show. As a professional actress she knows that sort of thing is an aspect of the job as much as being able to bask in the praise is. I'm sure her decision to leave was a desire to move on and try new things, and especially since it takes 9 months to film a series, most would want to move on to less demanding roles after that.

I wouldn't say she is a bad actress from her time on who, as I think she did her best with what she was given, it's just for the most part, the character she was given was a horrible one, so far at least. I'm happy to think that she's going because of my dislike of her character, rather than anything to do with Jenna as an actress herself.

I would be very surprised if she stays on after series 9, at least as a full-time companion. Certainly the odds are in favour of her leaving given the track record of modern companions.

I hope she does because it's time we had some fresh blood on board.

Good.

I've nothing against the actress, but I found the character annoying
