It was obvious when Jenna signed on for Series 9 that she wouldn't go beyond that and they've been signposting it for months that Clara won't make it out of the upcoming series to be honest.

This is just another bit of evidence to back it up.

I'll miss Jenna and Clara too but it's time for a new companion though.

What was "poorly" written about him? I found him to be exellent.

PC and JC have some great chemistry, Clara was a plot device in Smiths era.

pity? Not really, its time for a new companion for 12.

But BBC wont confirm it

If she wasn't leaving, they wouldn't have even published that article.

I say a confirmation is imminent though.

I agree, there is no doubt imo.

As someone who works in branding at the BBC I'm not lucky or important enough to come into contact with Doctor Who related stuff, but I do know that articles like this are now published as part of updated news neutrality agreements - in other words they will publish articles like these, almost as if they're not talking about themselves as a broadcaster at all. I've seen it a fair few times surrounding other shows, particularly Eastenders - there is compelling evidence someone is departing, no official confirmation of the news from the Beeb, but the speculation becomes news worthy in and of itself and so it's reported on.

That being said I do agree that the signs do all point to her exit, and as much as I'd love her to stay on for longer, her exit was pretty much a dead cert as soon as Series 9 became an 'extra year' for her.

I find that very strange how the bbc sometimes do article's like that where they act as though they are outsiders looking in as much as everyone else, when it's an article about there own show. It basically just says 'the mirror has said this..' and even says 'the bbc has declined to confirm' in a bbc article. very strange.

Why would they possibly need to confirm it at this point. it's much better to keep it secret and let us know for sure in the episodes. I know previously announcements have been seen as needed so the person could freely scout for other work, but in this case she already has new work, plus it's only 12 weeks until the finale anyway. As such I think it would be absolutely stupid for the doctor who team to confirm her departure before we see it in the show this time as there seems no reason why there is a need to.

Disappointed at the news. And it seems she won't be doing a full series but I don't know about shooting schedules. Hope it ends well for character, and look forward to seeing Jenna as Queen Victoria.

This feels like a given, the real news worthy story would be if she was staying Jenna has had a good run.

About time she left, other better companions didn't get this kind of run

Yes she will. She's not in the Christmas special and possibly episode 11 but other than that, Jenna's pretty much in the majority of Series 9.

Spoiler
I'm beginning to worry that she meets a rather unfortunate end in episode 10 and that it'll lead into the finale. She'll then be absent from episode 11, and only appears in the final episode as splinters of herself.

It wouldn't be the first time a Moffat companion has made some kind of premature departure in a non-Moffat episode - thinking of Amy and Rory hanging up the regular travelling in Toby Whitehouse's The God Complex

Well, glad we will see a bit more of her, but confess I am not overly fond of rather sad endings, if that's what we get!

I guess we can't rule it out.

I hope it is true, she should have left at the end of the last series. The character just never worked for me and that was even without the whole Danny Pink debacle.

I'm glad. I think Peter Capaldi needs a new companion.

Jenna's a perfect choice for a young Queen Victoria too.

I wonder if the character will leave in a tragic way.
For me the character just never clicked, I found her too annoying and smart-mouthed, its fine if you're clever, but don't be smug about it, its irritating.

@GirlyLetters
Rachel Talalay shot Jenna Coleman's last scene. That's all I've been told. No new companion introduced in the Christmas special. #DoctorWho

So she's definitely going before the Christmas episode, then?

Seems to be so, Talalay directed the series finale and it conforms with everything we know so far.

As much as I like Jenna and would love to see Clara stay, I'm also somewhat happy to see a departure in the series finale. It makes it feel bigger, more consequential - it's staggering to think the last main character to leave in a series finale (as opposed to a Christmas special or mid-series) was Donna!

I felt Clara worked better with Smith.

So, because the character didn't work for you, she should have left? Right. So your opinion is more important than everyone else's. Okay. Got it.
So, those of us who wanted her to stick around were obviously wrong.
Who died and you king?
