I had this myself, as my iPhone 5 backup was preventing my 6s+ backup from completing.
Shouldn't happen, I have 2 iPhones on the same account that both back up to iCloud. I've just checked the 5s and it is also just backed up, so both have backed up to the same iCloud account in the last hour.

Ah someone is still awake..... good.... thought it was just me! : )
I've had a few customers with iCloud backup issues so it's certainly not imagined.
In a few instances I have had to delete all backups and start again.
I have noticed that it sometimes fails if the current backup is getting near the 5GB limit (after the iOS 9 upgrade).
No idea what this is about but have successfully sorted it on all occasions so far....

Go into iCloud, storage, backups and just make sure you don't have a backup for a previous phone as if there is then there may not be enough space to complete the backup.
I had this myself, as my iPhone 5 backup was preventing my 6s+ backup from completing.
On my Mrs phone it says 4.9gb out of 5gb is remaining and there's no other backups there, it's very strange, but we are sure there was another back up which was using most of that 5gb, don't know where it's gone though. Also we don't even see the backup start, when you click backup now it literally just comes straight up with "backup cannot be completed" about 2-3 seconds after tapping it. Exactly the same thing happens with my iPhone 6, only difference is I can see my old backup from last December of 2.4 gb, I reckon it's an ios9 fault because it's strange it's happened to both our phones which previously backed up to iCloud without any issues

Mine has 2.6gb available but still has the issue? I tried deleting my Mrs backup to no avail, so I've just removed it and I cannot make another backup to replace it, brilliant eh we wanted to sell her 5S and get her a 6S for her birthday next week but im worried that if we erase everything on the phone and buy a new one, is her backup going to be still there on her new phone

If I knew this crap with iCloud was going to happen I'd have stayed on 8.4.1 for now!

Can anyone tell me if their phones iclould backup works ok? Me and the Mrs both get an error message when trying to upload.
Firstly, what is the error message? That is useful to know.

As a general tip, try turning Backup off then on. Also, don't forget you have to change to iCloud Drive on all devices using iOS 9. You should have had that option on the first device you updated.

You can also backup using iTunes on a PC. You will need the latest version running on Windows 7 or above though.

Back it up to the computer is a good idea. I did that with my 5S as my iCloud backup pretty much froze my new 6S plus so I restored it from my computer using the back up on there.

Well it does happen if there's not enough space available to backup to, but this does depend on what you've got set to backup.

''The last backup could not be completed'', and as i said above its not like it goes on for ages and does anything first, it just comes up with that message about 3 seconds after clicking ''backup now'' button.

As said, it cant be space because ive got 2.6 gb free on icloud.

Ive tried turning backup off and back on, tried restarting the phone, tried holding sleep/wake button and home together until the phone restarts, ive done this on both phones.

And i would have just done it on the computer using itunes except i cant because i cant install the latest version of itunes because we have windows vista on our laptop, so i cant do anything at all on the pc with the iphone anymore unless we upgrade to win7 or higher i really dont know why they dont let you use the phone on the older version of itunes, its like Apple want you to upgrade your pc

Have you tried going into iCloud settings and looking under manage storage then open up the backup and it should tell you the size the next backup will be.
My ex wife had an issue with her backup once and it turned out to be her photo library was part of the issue.

something I've found happen since iOS 9 is that occasionally I'll get a failed SMS bounce back at me. it won't re-send it either, so I have to delete it or just try sending a new one

thing is..

when this happens, the recipient has told me that the original message has come through up to half a dozen times!. doesn't happen all the time but has certainly happened

That's been happening a lot since WiFi calling was introduced. Are you with EE?

Do they use the EE network? It was happening to me a lot on iOS 8.4 but not so much now on iOS 9.1.

Ah yes, that explains it - Virgin do indeed use EE for their coverage.

I might look to flash 9.1 early if that's the case.

Virgin don't have access to WiFi calling, its EE price plans only. (Orange and T-Mobile people who haven't upgraded also cannot access WiFi calling).

WiFi calling can be turned on and off in Settings -> Phone if you have it.

There's nothing there in manage that says about the next backup size, it's just got my old backup of 2.4gb and there's one underneath that says "This iPhone" and it's got 0 by it

Delete the old backup and you may well find your new backup should complete.

Makes me wonder what the problem is then. I still might jump to 9.1 if it appears stable.

Thanks for the help but I'm getting the laptop upgraded from vista to win 7 so I'll be able to install iTunes and just backup there for now until this issue with iCloud either resolves itself after software updates, or I sort it myself.

It is, been running it for a few days now, everything is fine and running smooth on my iPhone 6, only slight bug I've found is sometimes when typing the keyboard stops working, like you tap a letter and nothing happens, close the app and go back in then it's fine, doesn't happen very often though, think it's happend only once since updating, everything else spot on.

Remember if it downloads beta 1 make sure you delete the profile in the settings menu then go to check for updates and the beta 2 should be there, unless of course it downloads the latest beta to start with.

Updated to 9.1 beta 2 without a hitch and I must say, this news app is rather good

Had at least 3 customers with this issue so far.
GONZO is right.
Just delete the old backup and a new one will complete fine.
