Is that a question? If so then yes 9.1 does have Low Power Mode in battery settings. The battery icon on the home screen will go yellow.

Hmm the net suggests iPad 3 never supported Continuity, my iPad certainly used to support phone calling and instant hotspot and other features. I must be getting features confused.
If we're talking about the same iPad 3 (the last one with the 30 pin connector), it works on mine with a 4S. I can make and receive calls through the iPhone, the iPad "rings" when the phone rings, etc

The Apple site says neither of my devices should work, though. I wonder if that's a fluke or if they plan to make it available in 9.1 GM?

If you are using 9.1 there should be a Low Power Mode to switch on at the top of the page in settings > battery. I think it's in iOS 9 also.

Just discovered a blocking app in Safari called Crystal. It's free for a limited time. I just tested on my iPad on the DS homepage and all the ads were gone.

So it does. Thanks cause adblock wasn't working fully.

Didn't realise the power saving option didn't kick until your lower of battery

you can turn it on manually though in the new battery sub-menu

wow, that crystal ad-blocking plugin for safari is fantastic. handles DS flawlessly for one thing, so i tried the daily mirror website which is very advert heavy and not an ad in sight - and, unlike the adblock browser, it handles it seamlessly as well - the adblock browser did pause and hang quite a lot loading up advert intensive sites.

could finally start using safari again after a LONG time !

It's eating a lot of battery life so far though.

ah, that's a pity. i've got my phone on charge so that wasn't immediately obvious.

the app link claims it improves battery life as a result of blocking adverts and user tracking though, so maybe it's more of a cumulative effect ?

I'm not seeing any difference in battery run down rate so far, only been using it for the evening so far though.

I just charged my phone about an hour ago and it's down to 77% already which is highly unusual for me.

I installed it with around 40% battery, it's been about 2 hours or so and I'm now on 33%, about what I expect.

Edit

That's on iPad, not iPhone though.

It may be due to downloading the app and setting it up. I'll let it settle down for a couple of days and monitor the battery.

I'm just setting up safari again while i'm on charge, so i'll see what happens once i unplug.

loading up some of the sites i use regularly on opera mini is really something else - not a sight of an advert anywhere

i assume that with safari 'officially' accepting plugins now though, it could only be a matter of time before something like uBlock makes an appearance

That sheds light on the motivation. It being the most noticable thing about 9 its going to cause heated dicussions from ad companies
http://www.wired.com/2015/09/apple-t...ng-apple-news/

It creates an intriguing funnel for iAds.
