There has been no behavioural change. He's been like this since the very first night when he tried to get his claws into Natasha, with some success it has to be said.
He actually told Natasha that he hated all the Americans apart from Jenna.
The only difference being is that it hasn't been focused on as much in the HL edits, as showing Austin looking bad may have very much affected how James came across by association.
By the way I don't think James is bad, that's more a comment on the editing. James seems okay for the most part as far as I'm concerned.
