Would anybody be interested in taking part in a prediction competition for the Rugby Union World Cup?
The rules are quite straightforward:
For each match simply predict the winning margin like so:
England v Fiji +10 (You think England are going to win by 10 points)
England v Fiji -10 (You think Fiji are going to win by 10 points)
England v Fiji 0 (You think the game will end in a draw)
The scoring will be as follows:
In the group stage. If you get the result right, you score 1 X (points difference between your prediction and the winning margin). If you get the result wrong, you score 3 X points difference.
In the quarter final, the ‘multiplication factors’ are 2 and 5 respectively
In the semi final, 3 and 8 respectively
For the final, 5 and 10
Please note: 3rd place play off will not be included.
Please also note: The winner will be the person with the lowest score.
Eg: Let’s say England v Fiji has a final score of England 25 v 15 Fiji
If you had predicted +30, (expecting England to win by 30), you would have been out by 20 having chosen the right result, so would score 1 X 20 = 20
If you had predicted -3, (expecting Fiji to win by 3), you would be out by 13 and would have chosen the wrong result, so would score 3 X 13 = 39
If you had predicted 0, (expecting a draw), you would be out by 10 and chosen the wrong result, so would score 3 X 10 = 30.
Extra time will not count.
In addition, there will be the following bonuses:
Predict who will finish 3rd in each group.
-50 for each correct prediction.
Predict the biggest winning margin of the tournament.
-100 for the nearest and an additional -100 if spot on.
No worries if this doesn’t take off but it might be fun.
