EastEnders: Lucy Beale Murder Trial Week Is A Structural Mess
Am I the only one finding this weeks trial plot line a complete undramatic mess?
After all the months of build up, I was expecting something far more breath taking with Max and all the peripheral characters in the trial taking centre stage. Instead drunk Cora, Charlie Cotton, and the abysmal sleep-fest of a plot that is Lee's depression get more screen time. I take it anyone who gives a toss was on summer break when these episodes were produced back at EastEnders HQ. Yet more evidence of a once great soap creaking on its knees. For long term viewers that have a good memory, this structural mess is unforgivable. |

The soap isn't creaking on its knees at all.

Don't agree at all op. I thought the period after the lives up until the max arrest was poor but I'm loving the last 2 months or so
Btw I'm a long time viewer. |

I disagree OP, I think overall Max's trial has been done well with the interlinking stories and I disagree that Lee's SL is a sleep fest, I personally think it has been a very well done and well acted storyline and am keen to see what will come next. I'm not enjoying any of the Ronnie/Charlie/Roxy/Vincent/Dean suff though.

Did Max actually tell abi he killed her or has she just lied on the stand?

She's lying I think I don't think he ever said it was him, so a perjury charge coming her way soon.

DTC loves having characters getting away with things so don't be surprised if Max goes free that Ian and Jane will only get off with a slap on the wrist, which would make this continued storyline a further mockery.

I just think this trial section of the story - like so much of the show itself over the past year - has completely lacked momentum.
You get a bit here then a bit there. But nothing is really building to create any great tension or drama. Look at the Shabnab plot, that's been dropped just as we were starting to explore the impact of the baby's death on the characters. With a good script you get have your A B C & D plots with A being the focus of the episode. But this hasn't been the case at all recently. In fact I'm quite fazed as to what current plots are the main ones, the lack of dramatic build around everything being confusing. I really thought the trial would be a dramatic peak of the Lucy plot, but this week Kathy's plot has taken priority. With proper planning and structuring the whole show would have so much more dramatic punch. Like it used to. |
