EE: Will Johnny Carter be recast?
Stube
17-09-2015
I've just been wondering - surely it was disappointing for DTC that after creating and building the character of Johnny, a year later Sam Strike quit. Do you think, considering Johnny was only in the show for less than a year and also due to the fact that he didn't play a major role while on the show, that it would be possible to recast him or should he just be left in the past now?

I think down the line he could be, but not yet.

I really liked Sam Strike's onscreen moments with Maddie Hill (Johnny and Nancy together seemed so natural). I'd find it hard at first to accept a recast but I think the character will be needed soon - Johnny still isn't aware of what Dean did to Linda!

I hope not!

I think the Carter actors would want it to be Sam Strike playing Johnny - they are like family in real life.

However Sam Strike is doing well post-EE and now lives in the States.

But for me as I came out because of Sam/Johnny (and subsequent positive impact on my life) I think it would be an insult to recast a character that had such a great impact on the LGBT community. Only Sam Strike could play Johnny.

And to be honest I don't think Johnny should ever return, unless for a guest stint (e.g.. Mick/Linda wedding). The character would go downhill, and Johnny (aside from finding out other Carter secrets) doesn't really have more to give as a character in my opinion.

I love Johnny and Sam to pieces, but I'd rather be left wanting more from him than him returning.

I don't think (although i know many will disagree) that he made a big enough impact to mean he shouldn't be recast.

That said, i don't think they should do it unless they really need the character back and oresently i don't think they do. Jonny leaving has given Lee more of. Chance to shine and there aren't enough storylines within the family for 3 kids so Jonny's USP is just that he is gay and do we want somebody in just for that?

So, in time, I think he will be recast but not for a couple of years at least

But yes, I'm sure DTC did find it disappointing as i believe Jonny was in part based on himself.

I wouldn't be fussed either way. He could return with an older wiser head on his shoulders after travelling so if he was recast I think it would be OK. He left as a young lad and would return as a man and EE would get away with him looking different if he's recast. I don't really mind whether or not he returns as other than coming out as gay he didn't really have a big impact on me.

Would hope not as he was a minor insignificant character played by a very poor actor

They recast everyone else on the show so they might as well

Right now there would be nok point, I don't think the Carters or the show actually miss him in any way. If the Carters are still around in a few years it might get to the point when the show will look at bringing Johnny back,Sam Strike only did a year so a recast is possible but certainly not yet.

I think so. There is much more to do with Johnny, but the fact it was too little too late and that's why Sam jumped ship because he was essentially a spare part.

Sam Was great in the role. The problem is that after may he became an extra and given no storylines. Also the charactee was my favorite in The show as it was like a version of me in the show.

DTC did say he wouldn't but if Sam refuses to return it may happen but not for a few years.
