Moz has said this weekend's London shows are likely to be his last ever in the UK, due to no interest from record labels. He says there is no point in touring if he has no new material. Sad really, because he has a fantastic back catalogue both with the Smiths and as a solo artist that could surely generate enough interest to keep him touring for a while yet.

Do you think he is just being melodramatic or has he decided it's time to start fading away?

He's hardly fading away. He has his first novel out in a couple of weeks. He's about to start a European tour.

I really hope to see him again but if he does decide not to tour he definitely won't be disappearing.

He's a multi millionaire. If he wanted to release new music surely he could finance and release it himself, there are multiple ways of doing so, what artist really needs a record label to do that these days? I just had a look at ticketmaster, plenty still seemingly available, maybe a boost to sales for the UK tour was needed?

I hope he isn't fading away but could understand him not being keen on touring. If I was in his position I'd step back from it as well - or I would at least limit my commitments to single shows here and there as I wanted to do them rather than committing myself to full tours.

I imagine he'd see that as a defeat. One of the iconic figures in music shouldn't be in this position...I'm sure that's how he feels too. But I do wonder if he drives too hard a deal given that apparently no label wants him on their books.

The only reason we hear about Morrisey nowadays is because he continues to slag anyone and everyone off. Musically, he's been irrelevant for years.

I still can't forgive him for 'Kill Uncle'.

"relevant".... name anyone over 35 who's seen as 'relevant' in music. Even the likes of Kate Bush, Kraftwerk and Bowie would be dismissed on that spurious criteria. What does it even mean? "Not selling to teenagers?" "Not hot enough to appear on a t-shirt marketed at students?" It's a strange concept for musicians. Are Beethoven and Bach 'relevant', I wonder? I guess not then.

Not sure what the quality of someones music has to do with relevancy

Have to say I was never a fan of Morrissey or the Smith.

Music dreary and depressing - Heaven knows I'm miserable now says it all really

couldn't be more wrong, i doubt there's been a more sparkly and breezy guitar sound in pop/rock than Johhny Marr's. Even 'Heaven Knows' is more funny than miserable, like most of their songs. But as always you have to know to know

Far from it. Morrissey's lyrics are some of the funniest ever written. I suppose you either get it or you don't.

He can easily retire from touring and still pump out an album every 3-5 years if he is so inclined. It seems like one of those melodramatic Morrissey things that he'll go back on at some point anyway.
