Question about Jimi Hendrix single
I'm doing a general knowledge crossword and one of the clues is '1967 single by Jimi Hendrix released with the 'B' side 'Burning of the Midnight Lamp''.
- - r - I'm buggered if I can find what it is anywhere. Anyone help? |

Having got another letter it appears to be 'Fire'. Can't say I remember that one.

"Fire" was a track on the album "Are You Experienced", and not (as far as I am aware) the "A" or "B" side of a 1967 single (though it may well have been released as the "A" or "B" side of a posthumous single years later).
"Burning Of The Midnight Lamp" was Jimi's fourth British single release. It was an "A" side, the "B" side being (as unique has already indicated) "The Stars That Play with Laughing Sam's Dice". |

You might know it better as "Let me stand next to your fire". It's the song played by the band in Wayne's World too. Hope that helps

... and Wikipedia says
"Fire" is a song written by Jimi Hendrix and recorded by the Jimi Hendrix Experience in early 1967... In 1969, it was released as a stereo single in the UK with the title "Let Me Light Your Fire". So "Fire" is the correct title but for some reason it was changed for the UK release. |

Probably renamed to avoid confusion with the single of the same name on the same label (Track) by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, at about the same time.

Crossword clue has it that 'Burning of the Midnight Lamp' was the B-side of the 1967 single.
It is implicit that it was a UK single. Unfortunately my Guinness Book of Hit Singles has mizzled. I must confess, though, that if someone had asked me about a single called 'Fire' from 1967 I'd have been inclined to think of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown' though I'd have queried the year. |

According to wiki Fire was released in Nov 1969 with Burning Of The Midnight Lamp as the b side

Looks as though the crossword compiler has got it wrong.
Not very good research if that's the case. |
