i am thinking of getting a new dvd player that can read .jpg files that are burnt 2 CD-R but was wondering if any 1 can tell me what the file size limit is?
example can they read files as big as say 2mb?
also what size would the image need to be to fill a 28" TV screen?

thanks 4 any help.

It doesn't matter how big your TV is, 576i (720x576 interlaced) is the standard PAL resolution.

so if the image was only 720x576
it would still fill the screen on lets say 40" T.V

I tried making a JPEG disk, using Nero I just made an ordinary data disk but all the files were JPEGs. It didnt work on my Playstation 2, but then I didn't expect it to. Haven't tried it out on my ordinary DVD player yet. To be honest I don't really know what I'm doing, I Googled for ages to find tutorials or whetever but found nothing.

I bought a Panasonic DVD S-27 today and was able to immediately show digital pictures downloaded fron PC to CD-RW and CD -R. Player was £50 but I specifically wanted one to compliment Panasonic DVDR DMRE85H that I also bought recently. Interestingly enough I cant get the DVDR to show the pictures on these discs even though the cheap player does it happily! Still trying to get to the bottom of that one!.

I've viewed 5 mega-pixel JPEG images on my DVD player before. Not sure what actual size the files were but a 5mp picture is pretty big as JPEG's go.

Obviously, you don't get the full image quality due to the limitations of the the TV resolution but you can certainly view them. Well, you can on my DVD player anyway. They were just saved on a CD as a data disc.

I dunno ..... none of the photos had any text in them.

Just give it a try. Use a CDRW or even a CDR. Even if it doesn't work very well a CDR is only about 10-15p if you're buying them in bulk.

I wouldn't worry about it.

If it can read JPEG's the size of the file shouldn't be an issue. Even a low quality JPEG is already higher than TV resolution anyway so an upper size limit would be pretty pointless. My DVD player is about 18 months old and it's fine with them.

A quick and easy way to check this is to simply set your PC monitor to 800x600 resolution (the closest match to TV resolution) and view your image that way.

Just sit so that your monitor appears roughly the same size in your field of view as your TV does from where you watch that and that will give you a rough idea of how legible or otherwise any text will be.

It is also advisable to use a graphics editor to resize the images to the TV's native resolution (720x576) as well for the best results.

Bold white on grey text thats pretty big (at least 14pt) is readable, anything smaller is an unreadable mush IMHO, and thats assuming the TV doesn't have to do any scalling.

If you want the track names then most DVD players that can play CDs will either display the ID3 tags, or the filename - so if you ensure both of them are correct you'll be fine. (track1.mp3 is no use!)
