Is anyone else glad Phil and Shirley are over for good? (EastEnders)
I think Phil and Shirley were a popular couple but is anyone else glad Phil and Shirley are over for good? I don't want them back together as I hated them together. I think Phil and Sharon will reunite soon because she's "Ma Mitchell" or Phil and Kathy will get back together.
I don't want Phil and Shirley ever getting back together but do people feel the same as me? |

I liked them as a couple but i felt Phil, and also Heather, dragged shirley down and stopped her from developing her as a character. By removing them both from her life, Shirley has gone on to be one of the most prominent characters in the show. Where as before, she was essentially a supporting character.

Yes I am.
Shirley had to get Phil drunk so,he would sleep with her in the first place. It was hardly romance of the century, was it? I don't want a Kathy/Sharon triangle mind you. |

In days gone by this would have been a 20 page argument by now

Yes completely. I'm glad they barely have scenes together these days. Hope it stays that way. Shirley is decent around Denise, Kim, Carol and Jean when she makes her occasional appearances. In the past she was great around Heather and Kat. But with her family, Phil and Sharon around, she is absolutely terrible and part of the reason I thought she was so over-exposed at one stage.

Phil and Shirley must have had an impact because everyone constantly goes on about them, even when they don't have scenes. And the debates on here are ridiculous. I can see exactly how this thread will turn out already.
![]() I actually think that they could have been a good couple but the writing was poor and ruined Shirley when they constantly had her chasing him. I think tptb intend to keep Phil/Sharon together and Shirley/Buster. Though Phil and Shirley do make good friends, I used to love their friendship. I would like them to develop S&B more now. Any woman involved with Phil Mitchell gets dragged down, and Sharon is merely his current doormat. |

Yes I am. Makes me laugh when people think they will get back together. It's more likely Phil and Kathy will reunite but I suspect Phil and Sharon will stay together for a while.

They'll be back together soon. It's Sharon's new mo. Walk out or threaten to walk out and then be back with him before the week is out.

Oh yeah I forgot Shirley made Phil sleep with her by getting him drunk. Can't believe she was that desperate to sleep with him

Times have moved on. Phil and Shirley are good as frenemies. I don't want them back together. For me I'd like to see Phil and Kathy together. Sharon should be teamed up with someone else, someone new.

I like Phil and Shirley as frenemies so I hope they have more scenes on that basis. It would be good to see some development between Shirley and Buster too. I maintain that had they been written better, Phil and Shirley could have been a power couple but the writing was terrible. And now it is Sharon's turn. |

I did say that any woman linked to Phil is written as a doormat. I didn't disclude Shirley from that. Sharon is the current doormat is all.
. Even Kathy is still in love with Phil and she wants him from yesterday's episode. If Phil and Kathy get back together and Phil cheats on Kathy/betrays her, Kathy will forgive him . Phil needs to be taught a lesson. I want him alone and back on the booze . Be fun to watch!

Phil diminished Shirley just as he diminishes every woman he's with. He has to dominate, has to be the boss. I was so glad when she left him, and then for her to be given such an amazing family was the cherry on the top. I pity any woman who gets involved with him, he cheats, he lies, he treats them like dogs. The only thing he has going for him is his money.
Edit: I do like them as friends though.

Oh Ii'm sure they'l be back together someday, I liked them together but I also like them as frenemies, I like Shirl with Buster just now although I really want to see more of him. I'm not really keen on Sharon with Phil I wouldn't mind seeing her with Vincent! they would make a good team against Philth.

Brilliant post. I love that Shirley is not "weak" anymore and I really like her with Buster. It's a shame that she was in love with Phil again last year and she was running after him. Hopefully she will have more scenes with Mick soon. I'm really missing her at the moment.
It was strange last year when they had Shirley turning Phil down and the suddenly being madly in love with him 6 months later. I enjoy Shirley and Buster, they seem more equal but would like more development between them. I love the Shirley and Mick scenes, I hope their relationship returns, I've missed that, and I too have been missing her lately. |

I've said a couple of times myself that Sharon would be good with Vincent. Either that or they turn out to be related but i'm alone on the brother / sister idea. I did think for a while that Sharon and Vincent fancy each other. It would be great if Sharon and Vincent bring Phil down together! He's also much better looking than Phil. If they do get together I'd like to see Sharon's wardrobe change. He could encourage her into some nice properly tailored suits and lined nicely fitted dresses. Maybe Phil dragging Sharon down has affected her wardrobe and if she falls for Vincent could have a whole new lease of life and a new look.

I wouldn't mind more scenes with Phil and Shirley as friends but I'm glad their relationship has been put to bed. Phil treats any woman he's with like crap. In fairness he was put in a difficult position while with Shirley. He had to choose between his partner and son and understandably chose the latter. However, he did also cheat on Shirley and I don't think he was ever in love with her. I agree with Ell_Ren that his partners become doormats although Kathy and Shirley were quicker to wise up than Sharon has been. Sharon's put up with a lot before walking away and it's unlikely she's going to keep away from him. If she is back with him within weeks then I wouldn't even count this as a proper split. At least Shirley stayed away coming up to 2 years before she went back. The only time as a viewer you could understand Phil treating a woman like crap is when his alcoholism story was in full flow in the 90s and it was genuine as well none of this on and off the booze in two weeks crap. Quote:
To be fair ,and I am not saying I want to see Shirley become Phil's doormat again or for them to reunite, but their relationship did develop into more than that as time went on.
