I think it has. Before you pretty much knew from week to week in regular BB series who'd go. If you were loud, rude, argumentative, manipulative or nasty then 99 times out of 100 you'd be evicted that Friday. There'd be no real concern over whether or not someone was more entertaining, it was instead seen as an excuse for the "Get Grace out" lynch-mob to have their pound of flesh on a Friday night.

But very often it meant that housemates that kept us watching, would go quite early on in the series and towards the end of the run we'd be left with:

"Day 84. 10:03am. Some of the housemates are having tea and biscuits, in the garden..."

Vote to save has meant that the housemates that cause the biggest stir are left in there. Look at this series. Who out of those who have left have been particularly missed in terms of watchability of the show. All the big personalities are still there, love them or loath them, and that generally tends to be the way of things now.

If only Channel 4 initiated the 'Vote to save' method years ago, they might not have ended up axing the series at all.

Its always assumed that big loud mouth ones are the entertainment and that those not shouting and screaming would make the house boring. The trouble is, with the editing, we dont know how entertaining the other housemates might be. They only show the loud mouthed ones. If the loud mouthed ones were evicted, they others may come through as entertaining.

True, but I think that's more down to how Channel 5 run the show as opposed to VTS. Channel 5 only seem to focus on very loud and obnoxious characters that of course stay in thanks to VTS. But if we go back to the Channel 4 days where the edit was more balanced, there are still lots of examples of entertaining housemates leaving early that would have been avoided had there been VTS. BB4 would have been a completely different show had there been VTS, Nikki Grahame wouldn't have lost her place over the likes of Jennie, Michael and Susie, Kemal and Science wouldn't have been evicted over Orlaith, the quadruple eviction in BB11 wouldn't have seen some of the show's biggest characters leave in one swoop. Plus there are many more examples. And it isn't always just the loud characters that are evicted as a result of VTE, sometimes its housemates who are even slightly interesting that lose out.

I appreciate VTS is not perfect, but I think on balance it's the better of the two voting options.

well ofcourse it is. its never made any sense to me how a popular housemate can get evicted over those who the audience dont care about. i cannot fathom why anybody would prefer VTE, but ofcourse some do. i have to say i was shocked when they reintroduced VTE for the civilian version as VTS was pretty much channel 5s staple on the show, though apparently this was down to Ben Frow and not the production team... which is even more bizarre, could you imagine channel 5s celebrity BBs using VTE? the ratings would have fallen through the floor.

In reality, VTE *should* work. People *should* be able to see that voting out the least interesting housemates is in the show's best interest. Yet they never will, therefore it has to be VTS.

I have no clue why it's vote to evict for civilian BB but save for CBB. It should be the same voting rule for both .
