With mince meat becoming increasingly expensive, why not use economy beef burgers to make things like spag Bol or chilli con carne?

You can get a pack of 15 beef burgers from my local discount store for only 45p and they taste wonderful.
Simply defrost them and break them up into mince meat and hey presto, you've mince meat for spag Bol, chilli con carne, mince meat pies, the sky's your limit enjoy

Well you can do that. You could also buy frozen mince which will be cheaper than fresh (unless there are offers on).
You could buy a tin of cooked mince or stewed steak for a few pence.

Personally i'd stick with nice fresh mince but use less of it and bulk the meal out with veg and pulses.

I used to make home made kebabs with burgers......cook them then slice them up and put in pitta bread with bits of salady stuff and chilli sauce

I shudder to think how much fat there is in 15 for 45 pence burgers.

No thank you.

I remember back in the early 90's someone told me that in the marker there was a place where you could get 75 sausages for £1.00.

Needless to say I didn't try them. I suspect that there was probably more meet in one proper sausage than the whole box of them.

I'd rather use soya mince than cheap burger meat

Absolutely, unequivocally no! You might as well have something else if your going to do that. Id would be like someone saying 'I know, instead of using fresh fish for fish and chips, i'll use this old mans shoe instead' Make it properly or have something else.

To economise even more why not put a cardboard box through a shredder, boil it and serve it up as spaghetti.
Enjoy 😄

How is 15 burgers for 45p possible? That's 3p a burger!

I understand some people may be on very low budgets but still. You might get a decent portion of fresh mince for 75p, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

I dread to think what is in those cheap burgers, it's fresh mince or nothing for chilli or Bolognese. A small amount is all you need, you can buy it in very small quantities from butchers or supermarket butchers counters, you don't have to buy the larger pre packed mince that costs over £2 for a small pack.

If it's chilli why not add kidney beans which are a source of protein? As for spag bol add some veg to bulk it up a bit and if you're worried about protein intake there's a fair amount in pasta.

Either should give you 25g of protein which is fine for a meal. Other than very large people I don't think you need more than about 60g of protein a day. Most people get far more than they need.

It's simply a case of horses for courses.

Bolognaise sauce for 4 out of a £2.00 pack of decent quality steak mince, bulked out with plenty of finely chopped onion, grated carrot, celery and mushrooms. Why would you make it with 3p beef burgers? I think the OP is trolling.

Another tip to make real mince go further is to add lentils.

I'd rather do that than eat rubbish.

You're not familiar with Mountain_Runner, are you? Go into GD, click any thread with a moronic title and chances are it's a Mountain_Runner thread.

I realised it was a Mountain_Runner thread as soon as I saw the flat-topped pub reference. I'll rephrase my post: I KNOW the OP is trolling!
