Combination flea and worm treatment - any good?

I spent a lot of money buying Broadline from the vet for my two cats. So fat they have been treated twice and I am sure they still have fleas as they are always scratching. I was much more confident of success when they had worm tablets and spot on flea treatment separately. What do others think?

I use Stronghold on my two cats, as Frontline gives my tom a terrible reaction. Stronghold is a kind of combo, "Stronghold Spot On 45mg is a spot on treatment for fleas, roundworms, hookworms, heartworm, biting lice, sarcoptic mange and ear mites in dogs and cats." I find it fantastic, although it smells very much like alcohol and the cats don't like the smell. It works wonders, however, and I haven't seen a flea on them since I started with Stronghold.

If your cats had fleas then the bad news is your house will. The fleas lay eggs - lots & lots of eggs - that drop off, turn into larvae, pupate, and emerge when they get indications of something to feed on being nearby.

Did the vet check to see if the cats did have fleas? You use a flea comb with the cat stood on white paper, and then moisten any dark bits you comb out. If they stain the paper pink-ish they are flea dirt - flea poo.

You can buy Advantage online without a prescription and it's effective - there is a question mark over Frontline.

The RIP Fleas website explains clearly about the flea lifecycle and why just treating the cats won't clear them. You need to treat the whole house with RIP Fleas, Acclaim, Indorex or a similar spray product. Flea 'bombs' are not effective - they don't penetrate the dark spaces the larvae retreat into. You MUST follow the instructions, if you do the products are safe & effective.

If there is a question over front line, why do Vets prescribe it?

Cos they get paid money from the companies that manufacture it to recommend it. Same as dentists try and recommend particular brands of toothpaste/brushes.
