Jessie Wallace
I know I should not do this........start a thread and not have time to see it through, but I do have excuses.
Anyway......here goes. I watched The Road to Coronation Street again on ITV 3, and it is on again tonight at 10 pm on ITV 3. For anyone who has not seen this, it is quite special, and the first time I saw it I could not believe it was actually Jessie Wallace (EE) who was playing the part of Pat Phoenix (Elsie Tanner). Elsie was such an icon on the programme that I thought any actress trying to portray her would fail........but not our Jessie. She was just the ticket, even managing the Mancunian accent to perfection. This is a programme not to miss, mainly about how Tony Warren as a young man fought to bring Corrie to our screens. Please give it a watch, you won't regret it.

I thought Jessie was fab as Pat/Elsie! I'd never really rated her as an actress until I saw her in The Road To Coronation Street, but she really surprised me.
In fact, the whole cast was brilliant! The young William Roache (played by Roache's son James) going on about being a serious actor was priceless, as was the reaction of others to him!

Jessie is incredible and it was that film that really made me a fan and allowed me to view her as more than just some soap actress.
Do check out the Marie Lloyd biopic she did many years before. A role that should of won her a bafta imo. She did all her own singing. She is a much underrated talent, our Jessie. |

Thanks for the heads up, I'll check it out. I love Jessie Wallace as Kat but I haven't seen her in anything else, based on EE alone I think she's an excellent actress.
Seeing last years Children In Need and that Bruce Forsyth Variety show she did at Christmas I realised she's a very good singer too. She's very talented |

She was wasted on EastEnders and if she has any sense she'll stay well away now. Five years and not one decent story to show for it is damning. She's very good on stage so maybe that's the direction she'll go in now she's left Kat Slater behind.

I am bored with Kat Slater. I am even more bored with Alfie Moon.

I watched The Road to Coronation Street, and even though I'm not a CS fan I really enjoyed it. T'was surprisingly moving and inspirational.
Jessie Wallace was Amazing. My boyfriend is Mancunian so im familiar with the accent and I thought her accent was spot on. She also really lost all traces of Kat Slater and embodied a completely different woman. I know nothing about Pat Phoenix but she made me believe she was fascinating and special. She made me love her. Fab performance. I've noticed Jessie has great chemistry with a lot of actors too and that was apparent in her scenes with Tony Warren. I really bought the warmth and connection between them. Jessie is such a gem. EE misses her and I hope she returns ASAP. She's a soap goddess. |

I watched it on ITV3 last Friday & she was amazing in it. When she read the script with Tony in the audition that was brilliant! The whole show was really good though, highlighting how much Tony Warren wanted Corrie to be on screen, considering TPTB thought at the time it wouldn't take off.
I realised though its been 5 years since it was first shown so maybe that's why it's being shown again now? |

I watched the Road to Coronation Street when it was first broadcast in 2010 and thought it was very well acted, I agree Jessie as Pat Pheonix did stand out. I thought the actor who played Tony Warren was good as well.
