CS - will Curly Watts ever return?
It is 12 years since he left, will Curly ever make a return to the Street? It has been discussed for many years with Kevin Kennedy showing interest in returning. Although I don't know how it would work now, characters always seem to work within the street and rarely leave, so I don't know where they would have Curly work that wasn't a supermarket (unless they decided to reintroduce Frescos back into the show properly).

Reg Holdsworth? NO!
Dreadful idea. Curly running the corner shop might have legs though. Sadly, he'd probably end up banging Liz McDonald. |

I always thought when he left in 2003 that it was a 'break' and he would return. Obviously that didn't happen.

I'm surprised he hasn't come back. Kevin Kennedy has said many times that he'd be willing to return and he was only axed because the writers realised they'd messed up his character by giving him a family and making him more serious. The appeal of Curly was always that he was a lovable loser and that was lost when he became happily married (and Emma the policewoman didn't suit him at all).
Curly is one of those characters who just belongs in Coronation Street and he's welcome back any time in my book. He has no family left but everyone knew him well and he loved it there so it's plausible that he'd return. The only conditions are that he's single and keeps his position at the supermarket - Bettabuys made Curly and the scenes of him and Reg Holdsworth hoodwinking each other were classic. Corrie is sorely missing that kind of workplace comedy at the moment. |
