After low overnight ratings for EE due to soap clashes, do you think it's time they stopped the clashes?

IIRC at the Edinburgh conference thing the other week the producers agreed that they didnt like having clashes. I think they should be avoided where possible.

In this day and age, it's not a big issue for those who like both soaps as they can watch up on catch up. I think it's more unfair for those who don't like soaps, they need to ensure they provide a variety of different programs for viewers.

TPTB????? You mean ITV

Yes they should. The Producers of the soaps doesn't like clashing and last week the press started on ITV for clashing Emmerdale with EastEnders. (Radio times)

ITV said about The BBC clashing Strictly with The X Factor. They hate it but the BBC said back that they can't ensure there won't be a clash in the same way ITV won't keep Emmerdale and EastEnders apart.
Perhaps the BBC should clash Strictly right across the x factor rather than just 20 minutes.

Everyone loses when there is a clash, but ratings become less and less significant with every day that passes. It'll be an archaic and obsolete way of measuring entertainment within 5 years.

The hour long Emmerdales with Eastenders starting halfway through have been getting on my nerves, but I try to just catch up whenever I can on iPlayer.

If two things I like are on at the same time I "Sky Plus" one of them or watch it "on demand".

I agree with what some others said; ratings are becoming unimportant because so many people don't watch a programme at the time it is on so it seems pointless comparing programmes this way

ITV are hypocrites and want everything their own way.

They will probably moan about Bake Off denting Corrie Live even though it is in its usual slot.

At the end of the day since the switch to DTT most people have a PVR so watch one and record the other for later so if BARB can be trusted with its estimates viewing figures should not be affected as people no longer have to choose they can have both (mind you they could do that with VHS as well) , not that I particularly do trust viewing figures any more.

I watch Hollyoaks channel 4 then on E4. I usually watch Emmerdale on plus 1 and watch Eastenders on BBC3 late slot. I think the BBC is in two minds about axing BBC3. They're doing a survey I believe to see whether the viewers want BBC3 to stay. Because of a stonking great tower block opposite our smaller block we don't get all the Freeview channels and if there will be a BBC1 plus 1 there's no guarantee I'll be able to get it so want BBC3 to stay. Plus watching BBC1 plus 1 for Eastenders will likely clash with something anyway. Sorry if that's all jumbled I'm tired and watching Wire In The Blood repeat at the same time as typing

I don't trust viewing figures either. How come some people have a BARB box and how or why do you get one? There must be millions of people without a BARB box. I wonder how many of them watch whatever. I've no idea if our block has one and I haven't got one personally. A lot of people catch up online (or watch a recorded episode). Does that go towards viewing figures?

No. If people choose to continue watching Emmerdale instead of EastEnders, then that suggests EE is far from unmissable. Why that's ITV's fault, I don't know. They have the right to schedule their shows as they see fit.

As for the schedule variety argument, reducing the number of episodes would be more effective than stopping clashes.

Exactly. Now if these clashes continue i hope the BBC continues to run SCD against XF.
I fully exoect ITV to moan come Wednesday. Did they expect the BBC to move Bake Off from it's regular slot?

Where is the sense in watching Half hour of Emmerdale then turning over for EastEnders is you are a big fan of both?

Other figures show people are catching up on EastEnders via BBC3/I player and other means.

Wow Dan, could you not at least save your righteous indignation until this imaginary scenario actually happens?

They do but in the officials
Overnights tell half the story. At present if you watch TV on a tablet or smartphone you are not accounted for. I player/ITV player ratings should be added to the overnights if watched before a certain time. The way people watched tv has changed.

Nope. I can see ITV are already working out their speech to the press about how the BBC wanted to destroy their big night. TBH i cant stand Bake Off but will stay loyal on this one.

It makes sense, surely there is less demand for +1 channels with the rise of on demand services like Iplayer ect...

I don't get the plus one channels, like you say there is catchup.

I imagine the HO fans get confused as to when to watch it. on E4, E4+1, 4 or 4+1.
