Hi guys, just wanted a expert opinion on whether the iPhone 6s is truly worth upgrading my current iPhone 6 for?!

Firstly this isn't another "got to have the latest iPhone" threads I am on about if the major improvements Apple have made to the iPhone 6s warrant forking out over £600 for now or is better to hold out until September 2016 and upgrading to the iPhone 7.

I have seen some very conflicting articles online for and against the upgrade so just wanted some proper advice on what other iPhone 6 owners are doing now the iPhone 6s is out.

Cheers x

Well personally I am upgrading from the 6 to the 6S but really it will be an individual decision as to whether it is "worth it" or not. Caveat: I have always got the new iPhone each year (thus far) and sold the previous year's model to offset the cost, so for me the "cost" is the difference between what I get for the old phone and the cost of buying the new one direct from Apple, which varies from year to year.

For me the key upgrades this year are:
Double the RAM (which should help avoid Safari tabs from having to reload)
The usual performance boost from the new chip
Camera improvements (I am frequently blown away by just how good the iPhone camera is, and it seems a no brainer to have the best one available)
3D Touch sounds like it really could be a big time saver if developers fully embrace it, but it's not a feature I'm basing the purchase on.

Is that for real? more ram prevents safari reloading?

I have the 6, and i won't be upgrading because i don't have the cash. i like the improved camera and the 3d touch. will try and wait for 7s

Resist the urge, save the money for the next year. I try to wait at least two years between upgrades.

I would say this with all phones (not just Apple).

The yearly upgrades are normally not that much, but with 2 yearly updates you can see a lot more of a difference and feel it's money well spent.

Maybe if your finding your old phone laggy and slow, but I highly doubt it and your just looking for an excuse to have the latest phone.

Maybe if I was a millionaire I may upgrade every year, but it's a bit of a waste of money.

I've bought every iPhone since the 3G (except the 5C obviously) and this is the first one I am considering passing on. I just don't feel the addition of force touch and a slightly better camera with some gimmicks is worth the £400 I would have to shell out to get the new phone after selling my existing 6 plus.

I do have a reservation at the Apple Store for Friday but at the moment I'm seriously considering passing on it

If £400 is a lot of money to you then no don't upgrade. I would say at least have a play with one in a Apple store to check out the new features.

I will probably get one next year when I intend to get back into the iPhone development stuff I've been working on. I'm too busy with other work commitments at the moment.

Also depends on which network you are going to use this on, If on EE or Vodafone I would say yes as they are both doing carrier aggregation so will get 4G+ plus speeds

Will that just deliver faster headline speeds or will speeds be consistently higher and more reliable? For example, on my iPhone 6 I just ran a speedtest and got about 60mbps. I don't really need anything faster however If I could achieve that speed in far more places it would be useful

I wasn't going to upgrade this time, but the increased ram and new camera were tempting, when I suddenly got a very good offer for my iPhone 6 it became a no-brainer. It's costing me £169 to "upgrade" to a new sim free 6s. If I had kept the 6 until next year that upgrade would have cost significantly more (as my 6 would have been worth a lot less by then).

Thanks for those replies, I am on Virgin Mobile so I can only use a 3G network meaning the updated signal bands wont affect me on the iPhone 6s until (if they ever do) Virgin offer 4G in the future.

The A9 chip, 2GB RAM and Improved Camera aren't really that much of a big deal to me as personally I could live without them for 12 months, don't see them as deal-breakers. It is just the 3D Force Touch which is the ONLY thing that is making me think that the iPhone 6s is worth the £600 to upgrade from my iPhone 6.

If you're in a 4g+ area often then it will be consistently higher. If not then it will just be an occasional thing. 4g+ areas are still very limited.

How do you figure it will cost you £600 to go from iPhone 6 to 6s?

Do you intend giving the 6 away when you buy the 6s?

As the iPhone 6 I currently use contract isn't in my name the owner has said that he wants the phone back if I was to upgrade and has told me I am NOT allowed to sell it on eBay or any other outlet.

If I want the iPhone 6s I've got to pay Apple outright for it and use my current SIM card.

ok, that makes more sense, it was just confused when you referred to it as "my iPhone" when you should have said the iPhone you have on loan .

If you can afford the £600 then get the 6s and give the 6 back.

It won't be long until the iPhone 7 is released.

Don't you want to hold out until then?

It's not a case of being able to afford the £600 as I can save it before Christmas, I am just asking if it is genuinely worth spending that in 2015 on the iPhone 6s or holding out until 2016 and get the iPhone 7.

As I have posted before I will be spending £600 on a 3D Force Touch screen as the other changes aren't a dealbreaker or something that bothers me missing out on.

There are seven answers to this...

No
No
No
No
No
No
No

I'm on a 6 Plus and there is absolutely no justification spending 600-700 quid on a phone that looks identical to mine that has force touch and a slightly better camera. Plus I'm not allowed to lol

If I already had a 6 I would still want the 6S but I could deal with keeping the 6 as it's not a huge step up really.

The camera is a nice step up, also the front camera from 1.2mp to 5mp is nice. 2GB of ram on the 6S is great to see. The supposed improved durability with the 7000 series aluminum and the dual-ion glass is good to see. Obviously the A9 chip will boost performance and reduce power usage slightly, as you see with every new gen chip.

On the other hand, 3D Touch is definitely not a feature I would upgrade for, while I'm sure it will be great, I'd be happy without it. Live photos are cool but again not something I care much about. The 6S is heavier thanks to the 7000 series aluminum and I heard that it has a slightly smaller battery, although that should translate to about the same battery life because of the efficiencies of the A9 chip.

I have pre-ordered the 64GB 6S Plus, coming from a Nexus 6. The last iPhone I owned was a 4S.

They're quite similar, so it will depend on your budget, and if you really have to have the colours only available in 6s.
