What was the reward? Was all that really necessary?

Does anyone know what the reward was for winning the End of the World task? The US team mates got into such a tizz with Janice for messing up I'm assuming it must have been something really special.

Situations like this really illustrate the cultural differences between US and UK. The US contestants really are so driven to win at any cost whereas the UK do appear to treat it as a bit of fun. It certainly explains to some extent how the US always out perform us at sporting events like the Olympics.

Anyone know what the reward was?

I'm not really sure Penny. But could it have been the letters from home?

Cheers.

I know I harp on about it but 'in the old days' you'd have seen the task set up and explained - you'd know what the point of it all was and the reward on offer.

Nowadays tasks seem to be set up to cause maximum conflict and confrontation and all we get to see is the fighting and fall out. Surely it wouldn't hurt to have a bit of context?

It just seems to be day after day of screeching and throwing insults - this is often the result of a task but we (the viewer) have little idea of what the task was about.

Oh, I agree with you entirely.

In the 'good old days' we got to see a storyline more or less through to the end. The way the show is edited now, I scratch my head at times wondering what on earth happened to cause this or that.

I wasn't certain what the prize was. All I really knew was Janice stood down from the boulder and won a 'quitters' award. Next thing Janice and Austin are going hell for leather over his lost letter.

I could only assume that must have been the ultimate prize at the end.

This series I've tended to switch off a bit once all the yelling and screaming started (again). I like a bit of confrontation, but it's been horrendous this time.

It was fairly easy for the UK to laugh and treat it as a bit of fun because Janice messed up in their favour. I wonder if they would have been as lighthearted about it if someone from their team had done what Janice did. Possibly they would have. Perhaps they just are not competitive and certainly are usually outperformed by the Americans at the sporting events because the Americans are and as a result are better than the Brits.

i think that its because the UK have a sense of fun and the americans take it all so seriously. they are so competitive. imo, winning is the reward (or indeed beating the others is the actual purpose)

Oh come on. There is a difference in the culture in the sense that 'winning at all costs' even over stupid things that aren't really important is more common in the USA, they also have a huge and diverse population and there's a lot of money involved in sports. That's the reason the USA win, in Athletics anyway. We are a small country and underfunded in many sporting areas too. We do pretty well.

I was actually referring to the QA one that Janice stuffed up by giving out the answers I haven't actually seen the one where Janice stands down. The thing is all three Americans really turned on Janice when she stuffed up. It showed a nasty side IMO. Farrah reminded me of one of those US gymnasts who almost always bo into some sort of meltdown if they get beaten or don't get the scores they think they deserve.

I think you just answered your own question Penny.. But I imagine even the current BB producers are not so graceless and maladroit to put that line into the overdub.

Marcus (do your own accent) The housemates are gathered in the living room. They have been given a task to generate maximum conflict and unpleasantness"

Why on earth they are still limping on with this team game nonsense, I can't imagine. It was silly to start with and it is ridiculous now,
