He's just appeared at the Detroit Jazz Festival. But the upload sound quality is rubbish.

So I'll give you an example of this talented guitar player.

When i started to become interested in jazz music (around 1986 i think), one of the first albums that i bought (on tape cassette!) was an album called Song X by Ornette Coleman & Pat Metheny & at the time i thought it was unlistenable; so i decided that i didn't like it, & i haven't listened to much of Pat's music since, & i'm not familiar with his discography.

Just had a look on youtube for some of his music, & i don't like The Pat Metheny Group;
I think that his solo acoustic guitar albums are pleasant enough to listen to, but are one tempo only (slow), & i could find them a bit monotonous after 3 or 4 tracks.

I like his duets with Jim Hall though; Here they are playing All The Things You Are:

I like his duets with bassist Charlie Haden too; This is The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress:

I also like the albums he made with pianist Brad Mehldau; Here's Don't Wait:

I like his work with Gary Burton as well; This is the tune Olhos De Gato from the Seoul Jazz Festival 2011:

So overall, much of his music isn't to my taste, but he is versatile imo, & i like some of his music, though i don't think i'd buy any of his albums (with the exception of the Brad Mehldau group though).

I wouldn't buy any of his albums either, though I did like some of those in the link I quoted.

I just post stuff that comes to my notice that might have some appeal, for a change, rather than the diet of contemporary pop that dominates this board.

That's not a criticism, it's because those who are interested in it (and I'll accept some of it is good), dominate this board by their sheer numbers.

So many people "pigeon-hole" themselves when it comes to music, when there's so much more out there, but this has always been the case.

Yes i agree, it's nice to hear something different, & there are some hidden gems to be found, even from musicians that may not appeal on a first listen.

Pat Metheny has a strong opinion about Kenny G:

As I mentioned before, I call him "Kenny Twiddly, Diddly, G." His ability to play jazz is about on the level of Jamie Cullum, but both are otherwise reasonably competent musicians.

"G" couldn't hold a candle to Grover. He could play tenor, alto and soprano.

I have among others of his, this CD.

That was quite funny, I just wondered how many of his sort of audience really knew about Kenny "G."
I've just read that bit about Pat Metheny in your previous post. He mentioned Kenny G playing with Jeff Lorber.

Now I really like Lorber's funk keyboard playing. (It's Warren Hill on alto, not Kenny G. on this CD I have).
